I did that to my 250r when I was a kid. Polished the side cases too. Had tons of fun doing it, would sit in the garage everyday working on something. Now I never have time to do anything. Barely have time to put new parts on sometimes.

You could do it that way, but def not going to turn out that well.. It needs to be sanded down for best results..

I painstakingly painted the honda in red and the rest in black on mine then cleared it. It wasnt worth it honestly..

Honestly, beautiful job!

Did you have to work your way up with the sandpaper to get that nice of a finish, or did you just start with wet-dry high grain?

After seeing this, I REALLY want to polish my side cases! lol :D

Hey thanks man.. You can strip them down with paint remover( still a pita cause it is powdercoated) Then sand it with a ruffer paper, then smoother.. Wet sanding is not really needed.. I switch back and forth between that and dry sanding..Then just lay on it with a buffing wheel.. Side covers are ALOT of work.. Mine took a long time to do.. Also you need a few variety of tools to get into the smaller areas to buff out/shine..

This is my covers I did.. again alot of work, time, but worth it.. Just have to stay after them

What kind of frame skid do you have? It looks like it didn't rip off any of your PC.

The swinger skid is a pro armor. I took a gamble and bought the frame skid of a company on ebay that is out on the west coast, that makes them in house. It is def legit, fits perfect.. Can't remember the name of them.. I also used 3m foam with a sticky back, ran it along the area where the plate touches the frame on the bottom.. So far it hasn't touched the Pc on the bike..

Nice side cases to! Thanks for the pics!

After getting mine done engine wise, I have started to work on cosmetics lol I want black plastics really bad!

I was guessing to polish the side cases would probably take me a full day a piece working really hard lol

To me, It does look worth the effort though :D

About how much time do you have in a throttle cover? Thinking about trying it out on mine!

Side cases will with out a doubt take a day a side, maybe more..

I have about a hour, hour and 20 in the one with the honda on it, a little more in the one I sanded it off of..

Funny story... Keep in mine, I have only had my 426 for about 7 months and just started working on cosmetics.

Just went out to the garage to have a look at the side cases and to soak my new clutch friction plates for install tomorrow... The clutch cover has already been done, just REALLY needs to be buffed out again. And the stator/starter side has the round part done also. My work is 1/2 way done already :D

And also, I noticed my exhaust heat shield is either polished hardcore or chrome, and most I see are not... Is that stock? (it's a 2000)

Well somebody saved you a bit of work lol.. Still gona need some good elbow grease to get them shining.. If they are done with out a doubt go over them again with 500( it will help a ton in buffing) The shinier the metal is before buffing the better it will come out with less work... Just like chrome plating.. Alot of people do not no about how it is done and the correct way to do it. That is why a good chromer charges so much.. The metal looks almost like it is chrome even before it is actually chromed.. As for the shield, you must have a aftermarket one, as stock was painted silver like the frame.. post some pics up brotha..

Here are some pics of the side case and the billet that I have been adding to it lately... Just replaced every cable in braided steel, stuff like that, still trying to make her mine if you know what I mean lol

One thing I really like that I noticed today is how nasty of an offset my rear wheels have... they are DEEP

Still got a long way to go till I'm really happy :p

Black plastics are #1 on my to-do list!
