View Full Version : Why must the world taunt me?

So I've been looking for a new truck and I really want a Dmax, however working only part-time I can't afford one. So instead I've been looking for an '01 or '02 Cummins. Now it seems ever since I started looking seriously for a Cummins I hear a Duramax WOT down the road at least once a day just to taunt me. Lol. I don't know about y'all, but a Duramax WOT is hands down the greatest exhaust note on the planet. It's like gods telling me I should wait to buy a diesel until I can afford an LBZ.

I couldn't agree with you more. I love the sound of a Dmax. I'd like to have a truck just like this (with a Dmax) when I can afford it, minus such a huge lift and the gay rims.

I feel like this happends to me all the time my family starts looking for a new vehicle i see tons of them everywhere. And if its a bike im looking for a see tons of them for sale, then as soon as i get the money its like they all disapper into thin air haha. But the dmax i think is the best looking/performing diesel i want a black 07 dmax extended cab, 7 inch lift, 36in tires, with some 19-20 inch chrome and black rims. When you get one POST PICS!!

I love my dirty, but personally a straight piped cummins sounds better than any other motor. But my dmax is quite and smooth and I have 340k on and run a programmer daily with a 100hp tow tune with no issues. You should be able to find a dmax with around 140k on it for under 14k. there's nothing wrong with a lb7 motor, that's what I have, just make sure it has had injectors recently and the transfer case doesn't leak and pretty much bet on the front diff going out around 220k. Good luck on your search.

LB7's eat more injectors than any other diesel motor I know. It's a complete crapshoot, some go at 20k miles, some at 200k miles... completely random.

I love LBZ's though.

I have even seen quite a few guys start swapping the LLY heads/injectors/pump onto the LB7 motors and the problems seem to go away....

I second the sound of a cummins:D WFO with 4 inch DP and 5 inch from there back is an eargism. just watch the fuel pressure on the vp and it'll run forever

Diesels sound so much better! Lol. The exotics just sound like flushing money down the toilet.

ive had my 7.3 up for sale for alittle while now. going to either a CR cummins or LLY/LBZ duramax. i really love both, and cant decide which to get. but ill end up with one or the other.

however, i still think my 7.3 is better and will last longer than any truck i get after it

dodge would take that claim if the body's didnt rust away... best of both worlds swap a ppumped 12v into a ford.

I was trying to not be biased and test drove all 3 of the diesels before I really started looking. Test drove an LB7, LLY and LBZ Duramax's, 7.3 and 6.0 powerstroke, then 12v and 24v Cummins. I honestly don't see what people like about ANY of the powerstrokes. They all feel like turds and ride even worse. The turbo lag is ridiculous and all 4 i test drove bounced down the road just like my '70 K10; 2 were lifted and 2 were stock. Both Cummins' rode okay and the motor is really stout, especially the '02 H.O. The Duramax in my opinion is the best of them all. Rides like a Cadillac, looks great and pulls like a monster. Keep the front drive shafts level and you won't have a problem with the front end.

Found a nice '01 6 speed Cummins I'm going to look at tomorrow.

stick cummins are the best sound this world has to offer in my opinion, if you have the cash get a 24v and ppump it, if not get a 24v and get an airdog asap, but look for a clean 12v first, im sure glad i did. and unless you either want a stick, which i suggest because there awesome and fun to drive, dont get a dodge because their autos are junk unless they are built

I don't want a 12V. Only looking for an '01 or '02 quad cab long bed with a 6 speed. Won't even consider a 12v. Only way I'll buy an auto is if it has a suncoast trans.

any reason you aren't interested in the 12V's? Also georend and DTT make very good auto's, but if you are dead set on suncoast i understand that

theres a couple very good auto tranny builders out there, how much HP you have/want decids what you need in a tranny too. 400hp on a converter and input is totally fine

EDIT: unless you drive with a super heavy foot or like to do boosted launchs

Biggest reason I want an '01/'02 is the 4 wheel disc brakes. I've driven a 97 12V and a couple 24s, I just like the 24v better.

where abouts you located? prices have gone down around here a good amount but still expensive. 14k can get a pretty nice truck but not perfect

doesnt seem like bad deal at all, ever since we got leather with heated seats in our 04 cummins i set it in my mind that i want a truck with at least leather, thought about getting a second gen and doing third gen seat swap
