Personally, I think they could care less about MX in general at Atco. They plainly state they are focusing on drag racing now... I wouldn't be surprised if they demolished the track and turned it into a parking lot or some sort of expansion on the drag strip area. I didn't see anything about possibly reopening the track in the future either. I don't think there really is any other reason they're stopping MX there besides the fact that they want room to improve their drag racing program.

Am I surprised by this? No, not really. It was bound to happen sooner or later I guess. I'm glad I got out of the sport when I did. Less and less places to ride every year.

So what's left in NJ? I think there's that one private track you can join... I forget the name of it. I heard its nothing spectacular, but it's a place to ride I guess :ermm:

that sucks. at least they treated quads fairly.

I never went there as I don't race but I have ridden acrossed the street. I seriously doubt they closed the track to expand anything. The drag racing has been there for years and isn't getting anymore established then it already is.

My guess is they closed due to lack of participation and or insurance issues.

Punk I will send you a pm with a couple of places that you can ride.

Kevien is the guy who ran the mx track, he leased the property the track was on from atco and this year the wouldnt renew the lease so no more mx track. I heard the are going top make a parking lot out of it.

to clear the air here..

ATCO MX and ATCO RACE WAY, is 2 different owners and 2 different businesses completely. But one man owns the whole piece of land. Joe leases the of the MX track to Kevin.

Joe has decided to not extend to lease for the MX track because there was a lack of parking for the drag strip for 4 specific events this season.

Now, by destroying the mx track, maybe abother 50 cars will fit in the parking lot. I dont understand why the lease agreement did not just include a clause that would forbid Kevin from opening the MX track on those 4 days so that the drag strip could utilize the parking that the MX track has.

Thankyou OldGuyonaQuaf, I appreciate that

they did that in the past. There was several days a year, that events for the MX had to be canceled, due to parking issues for the drag strip.

They may have closed atcos MX track but this was posted in the local news yesterday.. hopefully it finally becomes a reality and it doesn't take them long to complete.

This is what Baltimore needs to provide too. They have some great areas around the airport where noise wouldn't be an issue either. Be nice if this develops into a good model for others to adopt.

Hopefully the track in the link Slain posted comes to life. I thought they were building that track years ago though? I remember on the site they were talking about it and everything. Hopefully its not just for dirtbikes. Fingers crossed!

ya apparantly from what i understand after reading the article and have heard previously the actual raceway went backrupt thats why the mx track was put on hold. some guy from princeton thats rich and grew up riding is financing everything.. theres gonna be 3 tracks a main mx track for dirtbikes, a peewee/85 track and an atv/practice track. the article also said they're going to make a 10 mile long track/trail through the woods and also have accomondations for campers and stuff.. would be nice if this was all in time for the summer.

Yep they have had financial problems almost since the inception. This MX track was supposed to be done last year.

If this guy Scott (all though I thought his first name was Scott)is the same drunkin DB pompous wind bag that ran the cart league it will be a bitter pill to swallow before giving them any money.

The cart league was $80 a night for 8 weeks, and unless you were qoing to buy a 8k cart from him you were treated like a second class citizen. The racing memberships for cars is something like 10k (anually plus other fees)to race your own car? Gee I wonder why they were in chapter 11.

I imagine if and when it does open up the price gouging will continue, given they have the lmited supply to a great demand.

If the price is reasonable I will check out the trails but if the same POS is running the MX that ran the cart league he will run that into the ground as well. Too bad Tim left to run the facility in Mass.

You might look into racing the Outlaw series at Breezewood Proving Grounds. The cool thing is you have open riding and practice...and then a one race moto format I think. You basically have open riding available both Saturday and Sunday. IMO, beats traveling for 1 day of racing with limited track time for practice and 2 motos.

NEATV-MX does not have the schedule out for 2012, but last year there were a couple races in PA, NY and NJ.

Saturday practice, Sunday race, so 2 day events.

Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that going to happen. They haven't been open to us for years, and they've always put bikes ahead of quads for anything. Now is a great opportunity for them to do it though. Lots of people will be looking for a place to ride this season.

Hopefully someone from Etown sees whats going on with Atco and decides to step up their quad scene.

THIS^

I was looking at NE series. I am still weighing out my options if I am going to go balls deep and try to actually follow the series and race, or if I am just going to phase out and just race wildwood twice a year.

thats quite possibly one of the saddest things I have ever looked at on CL. That makes me realize Atco is not coming back like it has in the past when it was suppose to close.

I hate to hear this. Kevin Olsen worked very hard to keep Atco MX running. He put a ton of time and money into it and received very little for his hard efforts.
Thank you Kevin for your hard work at atco, it was a pleasure to ride on your track, I have many great memories there at the track that really kicked off my MX career.

Well said Pat.

Where is everyone racing this year? I think I am doing a combination of MDRA races and NE-ATV races
