'00 400ex

I have a buddy with a '00 EX mostly stock with the exception of a slip on aftermarket silencer and open airbox. I'm more into 2 strokes but am mechanically inclined enough to work on this thing but don't know much about what "hot setups" to do on the engine. He wants more power than stock but does not want to spend a fortune and wants to keep it relaible. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

K&N jet kit [stage 2] with filter helped mine alot...

Get a jet kit for it, grind out the header welds, and take the choke out of the carb. I can remember that it made a noticable difference in mine.
