What kind of sprockets are you MX racers using for track?
I just got my DWT kit and Razr mx's and cross's friday. now I need to figure out what sprockets are good for the track!
I plan on using renthals chain and sprocket kit. any objections?
Thanks for any help!

I use stock gearing. I take it you are going to be using 18s in the rear? If so use stock gearing. I am using a DID 520 X-ring chain and JT Steel sprockets. What ever brand you choose just make sure they are both steel. DO NOT USE aluminum. It will not live long on a quad.

For mx i actually would not use stock gearing. Plus it depends on what year model. I had to gear my 04 a little different than my 08 to acheive basically the same goal (foe me that is)
What year model is yours?

Its a 2006 and yeah 18s in the rear. 20s up front
I need to know what size rear sprocket would be good. Im going to buy a couple renthal front sprockets. probably 12 13 and 14. Whats everybody using for the rear?
Thanks for the help so far!

How should the gearing be for mx? short gears or long gears?

I run 14/36 on mine for mx and i thinks the gears are pretty long on my '05. I think gearing is a personal preference almost like saying which exhaust is better, everybody is gonna give you different anwsers and the best way to know what you like is to try different ratios

Good advice..... I run a 13/37 on my 08. I have a cam and higher comp than stock so that may come into play as well.....just remember that 1 tooth on the front is like 2 or 3 on the rear

Thanks for the good tip! So how does the rear sprockets work? number wise. lower the number more top end and higher the number more bottom end? Or vice versa?
I know Im probably asking to many dumb questions sorry guys!
Thanks for all the help so far!

Smaller rear, more top end. Bigger rear, more bottom end.

I've always preferred stock gearing for MX running 18's in the rear.
18's just spin too much for anything less, esp with RazrMX's, they spin all day in the loose stuff.

i run 13/38 or 39 on small mx tracks but I always carry 12 and 14 fronts 36/37/39/40 rears, Its not always how much top or bottom end but what gearing makes you shift less and still pulls hard

Im thinking I have a 12 on the front becuase by the looks of it I cant imagine it buying any smaller there wouldnt be enoguh room in the center. The previous owner didnt like how long the gears were when he bought it he was like almost 60 years old.
With the stock 20s on the rear the gears are fairly short if I really pinn it, I got to shift fast haha.
I'll buy a 13 and 14 for the front, but my moose case saver will probably be in the way. I guess I'll go with a 37 rear.
