Help me find a thread!

Alright, you guys are going to be pissed....but I really need help finding something that I'm pretty sure is on this site!

A while back I saw pictures of someone who had powder coated the case covers on a 400ex the same "magnesium" color found on the quick change cover of 450r's, crf's etc. It's a tanish gold color, and it looks pretty sick.

Anyone know what I'm talking about? I want to do my case covers and valve cover to give my 400 motor a little understated pizzaz, thanks!

Who did the kicker conversion on their 400 on here? I can't remember his username but I remember that his clutch cover was that color. I'll try and look.

I FOUND IT!!!!! YAY ME!!!! After about 30-45 minutes of searching I found what I was looking for, it was bkb88. Hmmmm, I don't ever remember seeing anybody on here that had that color on their side cases. Maybe somebody else who has been on here awhile longer can help you out then.

I'm hoping I haven't just gone crazy! Thank you for looking though.

What do you think, would the side covers and valve cover look good that color?

I'm thinking that color is the alloy that the piece is made of. Maybe Magnesium is what it is. To get the look I think you would have to powder coat the pieces. It should be doable.

My understanding is that those pieces are also powdercoated or painted, just in a color similar to that of the magnesium its covering.

Obviously 400's cases are cast aluminum so I'll be powdering either way...just thought for sure that someone had tried it before!

Talk to a shop that does good powder coating and they would help you get the color you want. They will want the piece to look good. Word of mouth is your best advertisement.

now that I look at it, I think the 400 case covers may be too big to have that color on it...:(

Man the cases and the jug look like they are brand new. Wish I could keep mine that color. I got a 05photo and Honda made the clutch side case one solid piece. You have to take the whole side off to get to the clutch basket. The case like mine wouldn't look right but a 99-04 one would. It has a cover over the clutch basket. It would look good powder coated.

all case covers from 99-08 on 400ex's are gunna be the same. the only 400 motor that ever had a 2 piece right side cover is the xr400 motorcycle.

xr parts fit ex's, but you have to run the xr clutch basket ( ex basket will rub) and you have to find a way to plug the kicker hole.

All in all, too much trouble to just make something look good powdered a specific color, ya know?
