Yup everything he said with a Curtis Sparks full or Motoworks full exhaust that would be a good build!!!

If you're on a budget, and your current bore is still within spec., then I'd keep it a 416 and build around it.

What kind of quads do you usually compete/ride against? If they are all on 450s and you want to throw some money at the ol 400 the possibilities, although not all of them are financially responsible, are endless.

If you dont have suspension I'd try and stay at the 416 and work on that. Maybe a 450r carb and some headwork as mentioned with some suspension would be your best bet

it all depends on if you want to drag or woods ride or whatever you want to do, i woods ride and i know from experience that a 416 bore kit is the most reliable and still has plenty of power, even better when you put a stage 2 hotcam in it, also i put kibble white valves in too.

No budget ? 426 11.0.1 to 13.0.1cop w/ported head +1valves ,

sparks cam , sparks 8 dis clutch , crf timming chain, fcr carb off a yfz450 same as sparks carb,

lighten the fly wheel just a lil bit not much , ps. let Racer Edge port the head and do the +1 valves....

get a dynateck programer you can set the lanch limmiter , timming curve , and higher rpm range and you can change it up with a lab top.....track to track set up from your lab top......

If you have no budget then I would highly suggest the best engine combo for an EX. The 440.

Now this isn't your normal overheating, replace the sleeve when it's over 440.

I'm talking about the 87mm bore (416), +4mm stroke at 11.5:1. Throw in a good cam, Hotcam 2/3, an FCR or Lectron carb, a bit of head work, maybe some +1 valves and a nice full exhaust and you have yourself one very, very wicked EX. Also, when it's time for a rebuild, you can go with an 89mm piston and push it out to a 460cc.

Of course you should do some cooling mods as well but it's the best your going to get out of an EX and still maintain reliability.

I have ridden one of these 440 strokers and they are simply awesome. If any of you have ever ridden a Raptor 700 with the big 3 (pipe, intake, fuel controller) then that is exactly what these 440 strokers are like, minus a bit of power and torque. They are overall, the most impressive EX you will ride as far as power without getting into what I consider the purpose built exotic builds (500+cc).

With this build, you will be able to do whatever you want with it. It will lug through the woods, throw sand and run down unsuspecting 450s while still having basically the same but slightly more violent rideability that everyone likes about the EXs.

If anyone is interested, Here is the link. (http://www.powroll.com/P_HONDA_TRX400EX.htm)

It's the 440cc BORE & STROKE COMBO

The Powroll kits are honestly very well made and will last just as long as a normal 416 would.

The one that I rode the owner had for about 4 years before he sold it and moved on to a Raptor 700. His Powroll build was still in perfect running condition when he sold it.

The only down side to this kit is they us a stock rod.....I would go with a aftermarket rod if it was me .....just saying

I agree. If you go the far a HD rod would be a cheap insurance policy to handle the power stroke.

I like the stroker kit that comes with the Falicon tough rod.I think thats the one ish is talking about. That would be a killer engine build.

That would be the one I am referring to. It's actually an option and one that I think most people would go with.

I've been running the Powroll stroker w/the Falicon rod since the spring of 06'--no issues to date. It's been run very hard throughout various stages of tune (timing keys, rev boxes, race gas, av gas, E-85) over the years. Rock solid setup and runs very strong.

its only 10:1 compression..but maybe thatd help the reliability aspect..
