Do you guys like your full flights even though they are +1 forward? Can you notice much? Especially you 400man with the Aftermarket shocks

dxcody
01-05-2012, 05:19 AM
I love the +1 but im not a fan of the actual brand Full Flight.. They were a bit** to install, and if you dont keep the pivot points well lubed then they squeak and squeal and are VERY FRIGGIN ANNOYING!

chronicsmoke
01-05-2012, 05:58 AM
+1 forward isn't a bad thing..

I had FFlights on my 450 for a while.. I didn't notice any problems installing them, but those squeaky heims always pissed my off. Keep them lubed and you're ok though.

One of the old style heims seperate on me (two different occaisions) when I came of the lip on a big enough table.. Managed to ride it out but that was scary :eek2: You pretty much have to re-check/lube them every time you ride

400man

Ive had the full flights for a pretty good while, I traded a pair of ohlins front shocks for em, at the time I didnt care what brand they were, only that they were aftermarket and wider than stock :D , I honestly dont really know what size they are. I have been pretty happy with em though, but the hiems are all kinda loose and worn out. If I had to get another set of a-arms I would get some that dont have hiems where they bolt on to the frame and just have regular ball joints on the spindle. I did have 1 potential very dangerous incident with em. I was out riding my trails and on the bottom spindle bolt, and theres an allen head bolt that holds it together. well it was loose aparently and the bolt came out and the bottom a-arm droped out of the spindle. Thankfully when it happened I wasnt going very fast and was out in the field and not the woods. it was a ***** tring to hold the front end up and get it back together. after that I took all the front end bolts loose and locktite'd everything

The HLS shocks I bought brand new off ebay for 200$ a couple years ago. I have 0 complaints about em and several hours of riding on them, and the bushing are still tight and the shocks still work great.

I have a GT thunder XC link and I love it. its deffinatly worth the money. and like everybody says, if you weigh like over 150lbs the best thing to do is send your shoc kto GT thunder and get it revalved and setup for you. If your kinda small then you can get away with just running the link with the stock shock.

In my opinion the fullflights are junk and i would never buy them again. Theyre so loud and noisy even when lubed. i rode with them twice and the heim joints were already lose lol. Id stick with balljoints but i cant buy new ones right now. Didnt even notice the +1 forward

Did you buy them new or used? Once I bought new-style heims they were good and tight for the time I had them.. just squeaked too much. I used Bel-Ray chain lube religiously on the heims to quiet them down.

yea they are all spaced. its not really that hard to get everything set right. the Best way is to just take a floor jack and unbolt the rear shock and linkage and then lower the bike all the way and just see what hits where and modify it to make it clear. when you get everything cleared you should be able to have the rear tires almost touching the rear fenders. Even though when you bottom out your bike will NEVER be that low, at least you know that you wont be having any parts hitting that shouldnt be. If I get time I might get my bike out and take some new pics of everything to help describe what I did a little better.

Dude when you bought the full flight arms did you have to replace the bolts that bolt them to the frame? my stock ones would not fit so i bought smaller ones and i realized that that is what is making them move around so much lol:scary:

Well raised the airbox spaced the exhaust and bent the subframe today post pics tommorow, I didnt take the stock link off but I just kinda eye balled it to get it to not hit stuff, but it looks good so now just need the link and 450r front shocks

Or did you just do it while everything was still bolted together ready to ride?

I just took the plastic off, battery off, and silencer off, I took a big bar and put it between the battery mount and top rail and started pullin I got it bent out but dont no if its enough but I'll adjust when I get the link then I just put spacers on the airbox and washers for the exhaust

Stickman400
01-08-2012, 11:56 AM
The airbox and exhaust is relatively easy to space, since you just need spacers of some kind. But I would deff. recommend taking the rear shock off, then bolting on your new link when you get it and dropping it onto 2x4s and then spinning your axle to check.

exracer416 those are some badass bikes . I dont know what it is, but they really have that "XC" look to em. I dont know if its the wheels/tires or just the stance with the suspension, but they just look awesome man

Would you care to share any details on your setups? like motor and suspension/chassis setup? And how do you like those irazr's compared to the holeshot gncc's? And I also noticed you've run both the clarke 5 gallon and IMS "bubble" gas tanks, which one do you like better?

i have had both tanks i think i like the IMS better becuz u can run any body with them u have to have stock body style with the clarkie

the green ones(same quad) had a 416 kit port and polish cammed andjust a slip on, and it ran awesome motor wise.
The red one, has hi compression piston, (stock bore) full big gun pipe, hot cam, p&p, 450r carb, houser slicast, w/custom axis on the front, gt thunder setup in the back.

i loved the gncc's finally picked up another pair after a couple years, the pics are older id have to get an updated pic once it gets back together.
i liked the clarke tank alot, the best part about that and the 05 style fenders is once u took the hood off, u could take the front fenders off with the tank. im currently running an ims tank now.

but i recently picked up an 06 yfz for cheap so its up in the air on what im building for next year.

400man
01-12-2012, 07:45 AM
thanks for the reply exracer. I used to have a clarke tank, but I didnt have any luck with it. It started leaking gas around one of the brass inserts where your fenders bolt to it. ive got a yfz450 carb on mine right now, and before I sold that clarke tank I tried fitting it with the fcr carb but things weren't lining up at all cause the carb sticks up higher than the stock carb. Does the IMS tank have the same shape and diminsions (except for the big bubble part on top) as the stock tank?

400man, quick Q:
Did you run into any problems with the long travel linkages and them hitting the frame or airbox. Another member, Stickman had HUGE difficulties and had to flip his carrier, do a 450R caliper and more to get his to work.

Stickman400
02-09-2012, 10:38 PM
Lol, I was just thinking of posting that after I saw it. He's got a 450 caliper too.

400man
02-09-2012, 11:54 PM
you just gotta check everything for clearance. take a big long bar of some kind and pry out the subframe rail where the battery sits, and check and see if any of the sprocket bolt nuts hits the subframe rail. and I just kinda custom rigged my airbox to where the top of it sits flush with the top of the subframe. its up highter than stock though thats for sure.

And yea im running a 450r rear brake setup, mainly for the extra ground clearance. and my exhaust is spaced out, you can do all that when you check the subframe for clearance.

that thing is insanely clean  , looks cleaner than showroom lol.

Those new razr XC's should be worth the money. its pretty much the same as how the pros have been cutting their tires for years now and they must deffinatly do it for a reason. I still have a old pair of cut razr's I bought from bill ballance's shop a couple years ago. they still hook up pretty good at a little less than half tread and are grooved out just like the news are.

I race the B class in xc and the higher one In hare scrambles.. I like racing 450s in hare scrambles because most of my races are fields, MUD, and tight trails in PA. I'm still in high school so I slowed down racing and can't keep up with the A class because I'm always in football season lol

Up in PA hare scrambles are a bunch of fellow rednecks riding what they built against each other hahah. XC or GNCC runs in series and is real racing. I'm not too sure what enduro is..

This may seem odd, but I like the lifted Ranger in the 2nd photo, looks pretty good. The 400 looks nice too.

I didn't know about the flat cf hood when I first got it, but after I put it on I thought I was a nice touch.

Lol! That makes happy about the ranger. Its showing its age these days. Glad somebody still thinks it looks good. I'd like to have a full size truck, but my ol'ranger still holding together pretty good. It's almost got 200,000mi on it. It still hauls the ex and it's paid for so it will hopefully stay around awhile.

I like it mostly because I have a 2wd reg. cab Ranger that's got a 3" lift on it also, so it kinda reminded me of mine. Mines got 172,000 on it and its starting to show its age, everything is starting to need replaced. But it's still a solid good looking truck that hauls the 400 so its all good. Anyway back to the XC's! 07honda400ex flip those rims back around, just throwing that out there.

Yeah mines 2wd also stickman400.

Wow. Didn't notice the flip rims til. now. I know it suppose to make it wider, but the feed back in the bars is gotta be just horrible. Idk? Never rode one with flipped rims.
