I am looking at an 05 450r with a 480 big bore. Anyone have any input on these big bore kits?

Im building a 10.5:1 470, an 05. Should be strong reliable power. cheapest way to do it is re sleeve your stock cylinder and get a 96mm piston. I got my piston brand new (a wiseco) for 80 bucks shipped on ebay

about 25% of the cylinders within the first several hours will develop a coolant leak caused by the water jacket being thin and breaking, if you make it past 10-12 hours of operation, then you should be good and you have one of the 75% good ones,

as far as performance i see a bigger gain from stock with high compression,

but if your looking for pulling power the big bores do seam to give that extra low end grunt,
if your looking for a strong mid-range I would go high comp with a good port job and and hc2 or hrc or web cam, but its all in what your looking for

I would try to keep the compression on the low side with the big bores, to eliminate any chance of head gasket failure

You will see better gains with a ported head then a bb kit. I put one on mine and a hc2 with a pipe and was still losing to a cam nodded yfz. After the money I spent on everything I was pretty disappointed. I had a my head ported and went from 47 HP to 52 HP with the same set up. So I would do in this order pipe, cam, hc piston. Porting, then bb kit. Hope this helps
