which operating system do i have?

How can i tell what operating system i have on my dell laptop? The hard drive went out so i have to order a new recovery disk but im not sure which os i had. It had the drag and snap feature if that helps.

If you didn't upgrade the OS since acquiring the laptop, you can go to Dell website and lookup how it was originally sold to you.

usually there is a sticker on the laptop itself (mine is right of the mose pad) that says what os you have and another sticker that says which processor is installed.

Go to My Computer, right click in the white space of the box, click on properties.

A box will pop up with the specs of your computer and OS.

I found it, it said what os the driver recovery disk was for. Adam i would do that but i have no way to acess that without the os.

You can call Dell give them the numbers and they can tell you everything about that particular laptop. Tell them the problem and they will help you fix it. I've had to do it to upgrade the video board and they were very helpful.
