are these just regular keys with a tether attached to the rider, so when the rider falls off the engine stalls? are they a good investment?

I was at Little Sahara, OK last weekend, rode a wheelie for a long way finally tipped backwards, I feel off, the quad kept going though...good thing I am a fast runner!:)

Order a pro-design from the company of your chioce...there easy to install and worth it,,,just for instances like you had... and yes it kills the motor when you fall off...:D

No it's not a real key. Mine is just more of a plastic thing that just breaks the circuit so you quad will stop. I attached a pic of mine its the red think in the corner.

I would say the 30 dollar switch is worth not having your quad role down a huge hill or into a tree.

If I were you I'd get a tether kill switch.. well worth the money and last longer then the others.. 30 - 35 bcuks like nausty said is well worth it

I gotta picture.. They mount on your handlebar's, some even can mount on your bar clamp if you get a certain bar clamp..

Yup , Pro Design is the way to go with Tether kill switches, I have an Emgo kill switch on my quad, its not great quality, but it works, I still reccomend pro design over emgo any day.
They are good to have, I've fallen off my quad a few times and its stopped the quad from running me over.

if it just cuts the engine off then how does it stop, wouldnt it just keep rolling?

Well if you are riding around, probably in gear, when the engine stops running being in gear will kill the engine and with being in gear the quad will stop rolling.

The quad is in gear when you crash so its almost like the brakes are engaged, so it don't go too far.

*Edit* Ahhh zephead400ex beat me to it :p
