Hey guys! Gonna start my mini build :p, im not tearing down the 400 to the frame or anything, but there will be alot of new parts. new axle, new slipon, probably new arms for my birthday. ive already got protaper cr high bend 7/8th bars. pillowtops, dg nerfs, dg bumper, and dg skid. (skids forsale btw) i just got back from the dealership. ordered maier wrap around handguards in black, uni filter, chain stuff thatll be here prob saturday. buying a g force axle(tusk now i guess) from rockymtn. im orderin it in a few minutes, my birthdays comin up so im gonna ask for a set of burgard +2's. my dads all for this build, hes pretty excited as he just went down to the dealership and ordered over 1k worth of harley stuff for his nightrain. im hopefully going to pick up a nice set of 90% razrs for $40 soon. slip on im either buying a motoworks or pro circuit. maybe a dmc. sometime in the summer im gonna sell my dg nerfs and save up and get some pro armor nerfs with the heel guards. ill figure something out for suspension. i cant just order anything whenever i want though, im 14 so moneys not plentiful doin this all by myself. i do have $300 cash still, and about $250 in gift cards to the lcoal dealership still. i wish i woulda jumped on those rear douglas beadlocks that were on cl awhile ago. $50. oh well. im pretty excited about it, should be fun. first kinda build. ill post pics along the way! btw, im open to suggestions and im looking to buy used parts and stuff to.

i would get the pro circuit s/o just my preference but it isnt my bike haha, Lets see some pics bro! 450r shocks would rock for you i think since you dont weigh a ton and they'll be on +2's

i was leaning towards a big gun evo r actually. haha my dads saying pro circuit, but my price is say motoworks! i need some ideas for little things to blow my gift card on. had about $300 in ift cards, bought these in black
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MAIER-XC-PRO-HANDGUARD-WHITE-/320712146532?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item4aabeefe64
which surprisingly, i only paid $40 at the dealership. only thing they are low on! i got a uni filter, i checked some prices on some other things, like a set of 20x11x9 razrs, yeah im not paying $140 a piece there. a few years ago a paid $140 for the same size razrs as a set at a smaller shop. but i need some ideas for smaller stuff to blow my gift card on, i checked my swingarm bearings and axle bearings, all good. i need a chain, but im not getting it there. $92 for a D.I.D. O-ring isnt fathamable. especially when its only like $52 on the internet. sprockets are good. i think i might replace the axle bearings anyways when i go to put in the new axle.

bumper? lights? i usually see if my dad will give me cash for my moto cards since he seems to always want to buy somthing from there or use it over time and to help me out. then get a 450r carb! i liked my big gun on my 400 when i had it..full system but it was the old school Big Gun RACE. maybe a case saver? new rims? matinence stuff? haha

In my opinion go with a motoworks i have one and i saw a nice power increase and you cant beat the price. Heres a link for one on ebay thats dirt cheap!

yeah my dad said he would give me cash for my gift cards because he has to deal through there for his harley parts. already got a bumper. dont want lights, and dont want to get in the motor quite yet. im prob gonna go down tomorrow and get a new oil filter and oil, and i might buy a case saver.

would i be good in the trails with +2 a arms?

jkosakowski
12-27-2011, 07:26 PM
Would you be doing any xc racing? If you are +2 a arms are pushing it in my opinion i would only go +1 with some 450r shocks.

someone answer my questions! come on! im looking at +2 +1 arms. how would they work in the trails? i think theyd be fine on the track. but im pretty worried about the trails and some xc racing. i want some answers before i order anything. so if someone could gimme some answers id appreciate it!! also, which would be the best way to go, full flight or burgard?

You should be fine with the plus 2 a arms my cousin runs +3 and he does fine he said he just has to be more causious so i would say just go with +2

In most cases if your racing XC trails are 48-50 inches wide, stock EX frontend is about 45 inches wide. +2 will make you 4 inches wider-thats 49 inches with stock wheels. Most will run a 4:1 offset wheel setup b/c it sits an inch further in than stock-making the frontend about 48 inches.

I would not run +2 or +3 arms for any form of racing but MX. Too wide for the woods and XC racing. +1 will add an overall 2 inches to the front bringing you up to about 47 inches.

Im not sure how people can use such wide arms in the woods. Where I ride the trails have been carved out by quads and dirtbikes, nothing else. If we ran +2 arms its VERY tight, +1 is about all we can run here.

finsteratv

i'd do +2's with 4:1 wheels. then heck you could even have a second wheel set for mx.

HondaRacing83
12-28-2011, 07:23 PM
i think im gonna go with some +1 +1's

CJM

+1 +1 is not a good idea, you dont want anymore weight bias forward, you want it back. If anything your going to want a longer swinger about 1.25 inches.

Call Lonestar or equilvalent and they can make you regular +1's, from lonestar they told me $500, they also make a +1 1/4 Swingarm for $500 i think?, they have a lifetime warranty axle too for $350, i really like lonestars parts there made really well!! as for shocks keep your stock rear and get some 450r shocks and send them to GT Thunder and get em revavlved and Resprung for your weight then get a XC or MX linkage for the rear from GT Thunder, get a MotoWorks or Curtis Sparks Exhaust those are the best in my opinion

what is the big deal about having +1+1's? is it really that much of a big deal? i can only find +1+1's besides lonestar and laegers and i dont think my dads gonna wanna pay laeger/lonetar prices. burgard and full flight make +1 +1's and thats the way i kinda wanna go. someone wanna explain more on this?

B.C.#11TRX400EX
12-29-2011, 02:57 PM
+1+1 is 1' more wider and 1' forward i think

caseywoods5
12-29-2011, 03:12 PM
^^^ the way you wrote that, you used ' (meaning a foot) instead of " (meaning an inch) lol :D

yeah +1 +1's are 1 inch wider AND 1 inch forward. i'm not sure what the big deal about being forward on the front is so i'll let others chime in on that.

HondaRacing83
12-29-2011, 03:47 PM
yeah thats what i ment haha. i am a little curious on this though

If u get that your center of gravity will move forward causing the front end to go down on jumps more than usual so u better pump back hard on a jump haha

+1 forward arms will make the frontend stay planted a bit better-but the 400ex is setup already to have a very stable frontend. It changes the balance of the quad basically for the worse. Most riders want zero forward arms. No quads I know of benefit from this setup except for a banshee b/c of its weight bias. 400ex bias is just about right, if anything a 1.25" extended swinger is better b/c it keeps the weight bias better balanced. Moving them forward makes the front lighter-rear heavier, 400ex already has a light frontend.

Im not sure where your shopping but houser, laegar, JD, etc all make +1 +0 arms. If your shopping on ebay that is NOT the place to buy some weird offbrand junk. and if you do run across them, do not buy bugurd...

GT Thunder/ATV 4Play and Houser make some good woods arms for the 400. You can get by with a stock swinger just fine, but you will want something like a GT link/shock. The 400's sit really high. But you don't have to have all that stuff. When i first started out racing, I had 450 front shocks and that was all in the suspension dept. and I did OK.

HondaRacing83
12-30-2011, 02:35 PM
What do you think the cheapest way to for arms would be? I did see some GT Thunder arms on ebay but didnt think much of them. Atv Four Play seems like theyd be expansive. But thanks Ill look into it!

HondaRacing83
12-30-2011, 02:44 PM
Laeger sport series is the cheapest if i wanted to go +2. Houser is the cheapest for +1. If B.C. is right about like $500 for lsr +1's they are by far the cheapest but they dont have +1's on there website
