i bought my son a brand new DRR a few years ago and sold it to my sister..Well I got it back because my son now wanted a quad again instead of a dirtbike..My brother told me he did something to it and said it now just needs straight gas..However I dont think it blocked off the oil injection tank..Is that a problem? I found a block off but didnt know if was needed or not..I was also wanting to buy some bigger rims and tires for it but didnt know if i should mod the engine or get a pipe forit as I didnt know if if would hae enough power to take off with bigger tires... all help would be great...thanks guys...:)

if it was up to me i would do away with the oil injector and mix my own gas and oil never trusted those things . i would keep the bike the way it is with the tires for a little while , and see if he wants to stay with it. the only reason you need bigger tires is for more traction . we ran snow hogs for years.. and before you dump money in the motor i would get a nice shocks for the bike.. we have 2 bikes a 70 with the older motor but long travel and good shocks. and our other bike has standerd travel with ok shocks with a wicked fast 90 2fast motor ,and he is faster on the 70. plus if you go with bigger tires you should be able to change the gearing

we ran a 50cc with the oil injector working for 2 seasons. no real loss in power, it works just fine with the OI if you keep it working and use good quality 2 stroke oil.

If you are not sure if the OI is working or not, my $.02 is figure it out before you ride! you will blow the motor running straight gas and no working OI.

the OI do fail (we had one go out, got lucky and caught it early). if you plan on running it for a bit, then I'd take the hour or so to completely bypass the OI. the biggest bang for your buck is the thumb throttle is a lot easier to push with the single cable compared to the splitter on the OI unit. its worth that alone if your little guy is saying "my thumb hurts" - there is your answer - remove the OI and put a single pull cable on the bike.

he is complainging that the throttle hurts his thumb...How do I eliminate the OI and install the single cable....? where can I get the single cable from....I was going to buy 8" rims for the rear and get the snow hogs and change the gearing a little...I was going to get 10" rims for the front..just not sure which gearing and tire size to go with.. been doing some searching but havnt really found much...I was also told that it is the same bolt pattern as a 400EX is that right? THanks much

the cable you should be able to go eny power sports dealer to get one or check out hotquads or g-force , turn the throttle up tords you more so his thumbs doesnt xstend all the way

So should I stop putting mixed gas in and use the OI or should I keep using mixed gas. Kinda confused. If I get the single cable I have to eliminate the OI right? Or no? Im assuming the dual cable is for some sort of thing to let oil flow from the OI. How do I eliminatte the OI if that's what has to be done. Do I just use mixed gas and not worry about it. Also what kind of oil should I use for the engine. I bout 20 50 is that ok?

if you go to the single cable you have to mix your own ,,, there should be a tube going to your carb a small one most are black remove that one,, and plug the hole we usely cut the hose 1/2 inch long and put a little screw in it we mix 32;1 and we use lucas 2 stroke oil ..but there are other brands of oil out there ,we have been using it for years and never had a problem , plus thats about the only oil they sell in our town

the black tube that is coming front the OI looks like it is going to the engine case on the front not the Carb...Sorry for all the questions but I'm used to the four strokes all I've ever owned...not used to these little 2 strokes =)....ill take a little better look at it tomorrow but thats what it looked like to me...

to remove OI do this -

1. remove throttle cable (dual pull) and put on a single pull cable. make sure you adjust the carb slide to full pull with the new cable

2. cut the black hose going from the bottom of the oil tank to the engine (thicker one). plug that hose with a bolt so no dirt can get in.

3. cut or remove the smaller black hose coming from the engine to the carb intake. make sure to properly seal the hole in the intake - epoxy filler, or leave a bit of the hose on and seal the top of that with a bolt. just make sure its air tight or problems.

4. pre mix your fuel at 40:1 with a good synthetic oil, or 32:1 with a lessor oil from now on.

5. done, go ride.

when i get home from work tommorow i will get some pics for you . is the drr single a arm or duel a arm . if single the wheels wont work on the front. when we had a 50 with same tires . gearing was 19 front 30 back .sometimes 18 front for big hills . 2.8 roller wghts 1500 ztr spring . plus if your kid gets into mx or jumping hills you may wont to get a slipper srocket . if he jumps hills with the gas on you could break a tranny gear

What weight of engine oil should I use.

its not engine oil, its specifically two cycle oil, that is what its called from all the brands. we've used amsoil dominator for years, love it, but you'll get tons of opinions from folks on that topic. might have to go to your local motorcycle store and ask for 2 cycle oil (they might laugh at you in the world of 4-strokes).

Okay. I guess it's the transmission oil that I am referring too. Why weight for that. For the tires I just want something a little bigger for him so he has a little more ground clearance and make it sit a little higher. If the price in right maybe I'll just get them for when I upgrade the a arms. Might be awhile for that. Don't want to sink a lot of cash into it and then he out grows it in no time. He's 9. 10 in July so. They grow like weeds it seems like.

on the tires and rims . around 100.00 . but if it was up to me i would get the 20 inch for the front . check out rocky mtn atv you can get the 20 inch tires for around 100 for 2. and snow hogs sit low to the ground . we run the dwt tires on the back . tranny oil we run maxima mtl fluid 80 wt most motor cycle shops sell it... but if you are still interrested pm me your email

So if I get bigger tires and rims for the front I will have to replace the a arms? He is mostly just going to do XC riding not really into MX. It does have single arms on the front not the dual.thanks again for all your help I really apritate it much.
