Never painted an end cap but I have painted things with high heat paint and had good results-headers mostly.

I have painted the canister on a Sparks before it looked good for a while, Just make sure it is High temp paint that you use.

I doubt you were considering it but I wouldn't do anodizing. Big Gun sells anodized end caps for their pipes and I bought one and it started losing its color in a few weeks. PC'ing or hi-temp paint is your best bet.

Holy smokes thanks for all the feedback there guys!

So high temp paint works well on both canisters AND header pipes huh?

Intersting, im gonna have to try it (especially considering that the header and the slip on are 2 different colors.

a dmc afterburner exhaust on my old 450r i painted the whole thing because it was such a fugly exhaust and a 400ex with a tc that i painted the end never had a issue as u can tell as long as its engine high temp paint and u clean ur bike and the best part is since its a spray can u can always just take 5 seconds touch it up and it looks new again

so as u can see my brotha yea it works lol i worked at a body shop for 3 years when i was 16-19 im only 22 now but learned its all about prepping whatever your painting just make sure your end cap or exhaust is sanded and scuffed properly and 100 % CLEAN before you spray it like what im saying is sand and scuff it the simple green it and then wipe it down with some type of high solvent fluid even gas works.

and i never did my header because with the high temp engine spray cans i never found a clear that worked good so if u dont clear it the head pipe gets so hot that the uncleared paint immediatley (sp) gets stained when it gets hit by mud even when u simple green it and everything especialy clay trust me dude ive painted a lot of exhausts lol

Automotive paint will hold up fine, the key is prepping the end cap. Sand it properly or sandblast it, use some etching primer and then topcoat with basecoat/clearcoat. It should hold up fine.
