I'm wanting to start experimenting with lower octane fuel. Will you hear it ping at idle? Do I have to wait for it to warm up first?

Could be an expensive experiment.. what fuel are you running now in it?

running 100 sunoco right now. Wanna try 100ll and a 50:50 of 100LL and 90 ethanol free. Would also like to try 93 pump straight

From my experience, pinging occurs once the engine is warmed up and 3rd-5th under a load in the mid rpms (roughly 5-7k).

Pump 93 w/12:1 isn't going to be a happy combination. 50/50 Av gas and premium will probably be about as low as you can go safely.

i would skip the 93 idea wouldent take long for it to fuge up your motor. the 50/50 might work but if it starts to ping id do 75/25 mix. if you have the money it would just be easyer running strait 100

Not a def but you might be able to get away with 12.1 piston on pump 93.. Only reason being is the cam(aftermarket) overlap, lsa is a little more then stock, so it would bleed some compression off, not to mention a few other factors play in.. Let it warm up good and go rip it around for a min, check the plug after.. I do know aluminum headed cars can get away with it, but that is the use of aftermarket heads, pistons that make a really good quench pad..

For piece of mind I would just keep running the sunny 100oct.

That what I like using also!

I would have more piece of mind NOT spending $8 a gallon lol

You have to figure your bike holds 2.5 gallons and let's say you ride all day and burn 2 tanks of gas (I'm lucky to burn 1 full tank at my age, lol)... Even at $8 a gallon you've only spent $40 on fuel. Some people spend that just trailering thier quads to and from a track or riding spot... Not sure where in central Fl you are but I used to pick up 100ll in Titusville for about $4 and change a gallon at a local airport.

You don't want to know how much we pay for 5 gal. of VP C-12.

120$ After tax in town, 90$ after tax at a distribution center in Ottawa (1 Hr. away)

24$/gal in town
18$/gal for an hour drive

At 8$ a gal, I'd run it full time. Hell, we are paying $4.54 a gallon of regular test gas..

I have 100LL on hand, and pat right around $5 a gallon for it. Just nervouse about running it straight full time...

In 5 gallon jug I put 3 gallons 110 leaded race gas and 2 gallons 93 (ethanol free). Run it all the time. Even in my wifes 250ex and its stock except for a 2 Brothers Racing silencer. I give 7.00 dollars a gallon for the 110 and 3.45 a gallon for the premium. unleaded. She can tell a difference if I just put premium unleaded in it. That's why I mix it all the time. The lead keeps all the carbon buildup burned off. When we had my motor apart there wasn't any carbon buildup.
