Hey guys ..... my wife and I are in the process of buying a house and I'm trying to figure out what I should do in the basement to personalize it. The owners are leaving the Dufferin pool table (it has a teal colored carpeting). The wall with the fire place is partially brick .... and on the same wall there's glass shelving with mirror behind it.
The flooring is an off white with grey fiber carpeting.
Any of you guys have any man cave pics or have advice on what we should do?

Paint the walls to match the pool table. Your wife will probably despise the color and never set foot down there :macho

I know they're expensive, but you'd be surprised how much a couple neon signs will really transform an ordinary room into a man-cave.

I've got a man corner in my house, actually, I have the whole house!
Get you a good arcade game. I picked up an Area 51/Maximum force for 200 bucks and my friends an I have had a good time on it.
Arcade/video game spot with large tv and surround sound-can double as a mini movie theater.
Mounted game on the walls of freestanding
Old time antique junk on the walls, old engine stuff, tools, etc.
Pictures of game, cars, bikes, logos of stuff you like, etc
Workshop area if it already doesnt have one.

Bar signs, different paint, wet bar, fridge stocked with beer and man food, vintage type signs on wall I.E., cars, tractors, tools, gas stations, oil, ect. stereo, hoop shoot game, air hockey, arcade games, dart board, card table...you get the idea. Just basically a place when a man can go to get away from the wife and kids to burp, fart, scratch himself, grunt, drink beer, eat beef jerkey, watch sports (man sports not soccer, tennis, figure skating, ect.) and be manly. :macho

Are those candles above the fireplace? Yeah, nothing says "Man Cave" like aroma-therapy. :p
Suggestions like big TVs, a wet bar, and video games are obvious. My best suggestion towards the direction of remodeling would be to put a shelf about a foot wide on the wall all the way around that pool table, it would give it a real bar-feel without being to tacky. It looks like it has one on the corner, but I'd extend it along the entire wall. You can't have enough beer-space in a man cave.

if it were me i'd paint the walls above the knotty pine a dark earth tone... maroon, green, a leather'ish shade of brown, for the warm irish pub feel.
IMO lighting is key to achieve whatever theme you're going for in a room, a man cave being no exception. i see you have nice can lighting in the drop ceiling... put them on a dimmer if they're not already. a stained glass light over the pool table would be killer.
i agree with the statement above about a shallow bar at chair rail height... coupled with a few barstools, your center of entertainment can be anywhere.
don't forget the american flag.. :D

Yeah a lot of good ideas. I'm not much of a card player though ... so the pool table will be the main attraction.
I was thinking of most likely putting a shelf (pub height)between the 2 beams and a couple of pub chairs.

The dilema I'm having is trying to figure out what color to paint the walls. The wood of the pool table is a light oak, the cloth on the table is a teal and the wainscoting along the walls is a pine color. Also I'm trying to tie everythign is with the reddish brick behind the fireplace. :grr:

The beer launching fridge is awesome! I can't believe that nobody mentioned any atv/mx related items hanging on the wall.

That's in the works. A friend of mine is an artist so I'm trying to get her to paint a picture of a distress Canadian flag for the wall.

What a badarse thread :D. The beer thrower is pure genius.
You have mostly everything I would have said...
- drums
- I was going to suggest a 60-70" HD flatscreen but you have that more than covered :o
- bar/beer
Colors... go for something that compliments man-colors, such as: dark blue walls, white trim/wall border, black furniture, black lamp shades, black leather curtains (dunno if you're going that far). Brown & tan are out for man-colors because they look nasty, and give the impression that you havn't any style, it would look more like a boring log cabin. Stay away from any shade of (unless it's a neon sign) green, pink, and red as they're "happy colors". "Cool/updated" colors are purples, blues, whites, blacks, and something in between like shining silver. Limit white to small pieces.
Gotta have leather recliners.
Lots of neon things are great as it gives it a bar feel.
A DJ booth w/turn tables and something like Ableton Live (a digital music production program) on a laptop.
The same carpet from "The Big Lebowski".
There's a guy in Canada who sells what he markets as "unbreakable light sabers". Expensive at like $200-$400, but they're so awesome, and have a strobe effect in the dark.
Dunno if you've got them, but - subwoofers. I know of a cheap setup with a 500W 18" that can produce in-room reference levels (like when you go to a movie theatre or around 120-130dB peak), and someone on an audio forum made a box plan for it (and it was one hell of a braced box), and it was in a word, insane for the price. The sub is a Mach 5 audio IXL 18", $100-$150 used because they're discontinued - "I bought two for $175 each shipped. For an 18", high excursion driver, I can't complain."
Here's the box plan for home theatre, made from 2 sheets of .75" MDF. It has since been updated, and it gives multiple port tunings from 15-25 Hertz.

yeah that is a *****in system. I think one of those 18's is just something i might have to look into one of these days. I have a 12" and 2-10's inside the house and they make noise, but you get a lot of unclean rattly bass, I just always attributed it to a wooden floor and no carpet in the house to soak it up., but i think it is also just a smaller diameter speaker with probably not enough air.

For those who don't know what a TC sounds (or Audiopulse) LMS-Ultra is, it's the mack daddy of low distortion subwoofers.
- 15 & 18
- 5000W RMS
- sealed or ported
- 38mm throw
5-5.5 cubic feet NET sealed yields approx FC @ 30 Hz (the response rolls off at 8-12dB/octave after 30 Hz). Literally zero distortion because of the motor design. Has a rare & flat response for an 18" in 5 cubes sealed.
This guy has 8 of them in his HT:

But to quadstar, for real when you have "the tv", like the best tv amongst your friends, it makes it a no brainer to have your buds over for football sunday or to watch some weird show or whatever. It kinda takes the argument out of your new wife! "Sorry babe, the boys are coming over. go make us dinner" kinda thing!
