250x lights?

Okay, summer is coming around and we love to night ride. When I bought my X there was no lights on it. I got dual halogen lights and they worked fine until my mechanic told me that 12 volt auto lights will burn the stator out. He said that the lights pull to much wattage from the alternator or stator. I want lights but dont know what kind to get so this isnt a problem?
Any help would be much appreciated!

i dont have a problem. i run 2 6" neons too. i just hoooked my lights into the old stock wiring harness. i think its less wattage than stock because they dont have high beams and the neons will run off a watch battery practically :x
