I bought a tether kill for my 400 but never ended up putting it on. Are the 400ex and 04-05 450R tether kills the same or do I need to buy a new one for the 450?

same,

as long as when the tether key is pulled out, you have continuity between the 2 wires its the right type..

its made to ground out the black/white stripe wire to ground when pulled

on the 4 stroke shouldn't it be open loop when tether pulled and grounded on 2 stroke??

actually the 250r 400ex and 450r all use the same style,

the stock kill circuit is shorted to ground when tether is dislodged

they do call it a open loop, meaning that the normal state running is open,

which is different then normally open and normally closed contacts, which are rated in the de energized state...but the kill switch is really classified as a dead-man switch.

and the normal position of a dead-man switch is run
