I have a 02 400. I do alot of trail riding and big open sand pit/hardpack riding. I have 20 inch blackwaters which are alittle bit heavier then stock. I have a renthal 14t sitting in my garage but should i put it on? Or am i gonna lose to much top end? Anyone with any thoughts or ideas on a good all around ratio let me know. Thanks

14t is nice for motoX but for trail ridding Iwould stick with stock gearing...

when i put 22" tires on i felt like it needed to drop to a 14th.If you mostly trail ride put it on.Your not going to wind out 5th very often so put the power where you need it .On the low end.Makes climbing hills in 2nd much better. But i may be going back to a 15th now that i have rebuilt.Just have to ride it and see how it does.

I ran a 14 tooth for trail for a while. It was great for the tight woods riding and hill climbing. Nice long climbs in 2nd gear. Getting in open space it felt like i needed another gear. I took it off last week. Went back to a 15 tooth up front and a 39 in the rear. This should be a good middle of the road for trail. Not geared to low. I am riding this weekend and should know how it works. The stock gearing is stiull not bad for the trails. Hill climbing was OK with stock.

I went to a 14 tooth front and do not like it. it was nice for climbing hills but that was about it. I also was thinking of 15/39tooth combo, please do let us know how it is.

Yeah Keep me posted on the 15/39 ratio. How much for a 39tooth sprocket? Thanks

I run a 15-39 & LOVE IT!! me & my buddy have the same mods, but he's running stock gearing [15-38] I can beat him through the gears, but when where topped out in 5th he very slowly starts to catch up to me. I like the idea of being faster through the gears....

The 39 tooth sprocket was 25-30 bucks from C&D. It is a sunstar Steel sprocket. Looks like a good one. Riding tomorrow I will keep you posted.

Well just checked out the new gearing 15/39. I would have to say i like it allot better than the 14/38 More top end but still has a good pop down low. Did some hill climbing not real steep though at it performed great. I am going to run this for now. Might change to stock when i do a piston and cam. But i would recomend this gearing for trail. You will like it much better than 14/38 :D
