Just bought a 2002 yamaha banshee to fix up and rebuild. The kid was asking $1500 for it and said it just needed a new piston because the left side blew up. He also said it had a complete rebuild recently with a wiseco crank and wsm pistons. He even was including a brand new piston for it, but when we checked the connecting rods...the crank was locked up. Somehow we were able to talk him down and only pay $400 it!!!

The bike is in decent shape, but you can tell it was rode hard. Some of the a arm bushings are loose, needs brakes, plastic has stress marks, bumpers are dented, etc. Should be a fun project.

My goal is to try and keep my budget around $1000. It needs wheel bearings, brakes, tires, top end, and chain and sprockets.

It also needs tires bad, they are completely bald. It also had t5 pipes, k&n, and boost bottle. Should be pretty quick once i get it running.

Wow, great deal! I just bought a 2000 for $1400, thought I got a good deal but I started taking it apart and it is hammered, going to need a lot more than I thought. I was hoping to build a Banshee for a trail quad since I just did a complete MX build on a TRX250R. I was hoping to spend very little on the Banshee since I just spent several thousand on the TRX...

Your banshee looks very clean. Whats wrong with it?

I split the cases and cleaned all the broken piston parts out of the left side. Installed new engine seals and put the bottom end together tonight. I got my cylinders back from the shop with a fresh 0.10 over bore with OEM yamaha pistons.

Just adding some of my progress. Took all the plastic off to refinish. The person who had it before me thought it would be cool to put stickers everywhere.

I used a heat gun to help remove the stickers and then heated the plastic to restore and remove the white stress marks. It turned out much better than I thought.

Took it out for a spin and it's pretty quick. Stopped to take a picture by the lake.

I ordered a bunch of new parts: brakes, bearings, chain and sprockets, and new tires. This summer i'm gonna take it down to the frame and completely repaint and fix all the little issues. Also, ordered some hiPer wheels for it.

Very first thing you need to do is get those aweful stock pipes off it. You get a set of toomey's and get it jetted you won't think it went from a 350 to a 350 per side.

Thank you. The plastic turned out really well...the heat gun really gave the plastic a glossy look and helped remove scratches and stress marks. I recommend it to anyone.

I just bought some more parts for it and a digital camera so i'll have some better pictures in a few weeks after I install them...

Haha. It has a set of toomey t5's in the picture. I painted them with high temp black paint because they were rusty. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but they are t5's. When i tear it down this summer to rebuild i plan on polishing the t5's with steel wool and aluminum fool then adding polishing compound...

It's also jetted correctly for the t5's...it runs like a raped ape. I can't even imagine what a 4mm stroker runs like...

Put some +2 full flights on the front, some hiper tech 3 wheels, and race cut plastic on the front.

That banshee was looking great, but I can't say I like the shaved fender look, I think uncut looks better. First banshee I seen with hipers, that's cool.
