Just getting around to cleaning my filter after last ride, noticed that a fair amount of dust was in the intake tube :(.. I am going to get a pre filter for this uni.. What outerwear fits the uni filter.. All that I have seen say they only fit the K&N style filter.. Thanks

Try using more filter oil and clean after every ride

I had it pretty glazed last time.. Hmmmm I will give that a shot but in the mean time, do you know if that outerwear will fit the uni filter?

Take a old pantyhose and cut just the end of a foot off say 3-5 inches. Ziptie it over the snorkel. Keeps the dust from getting in there too much, I also run an outerwears lid.

As for oil, I only use spray on foam filter oil..reg oil is just a mess of crap. PJ1 is what I like.

Didnt know John.

Id say then there isnt much else you could do. Maybe a KN type pre-filter would work over a unit but IDK for sure.

edit: found this, not sure if it works tho http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/productDetail.do?navType=type&webTypeId=4&navTitle=Filters&webCatId=27&keyword=outerwear+pre+filter+covers&prodFamilyId=9204

pantyhose trick could work on the uni filter too I guess lol

Yes they are the ones I am referring to. Just doesn't say anywhere if it fits the uni.

Thanks John

And that is why I run a K&N. Everyone says they don't work, but there is never a spec of dust in my intake tube. I highly doubt the prefilter will fit the Uni. Not to start an arguement, because I know the K&N VS. UNI is like getting into a Chevy vs Ford match, but its just my opinion.

take measurements of your filter, and call outerwears direct. thay can make one to fit. had to do this with the uni i run on my predator.

No I do not spray it, I just oil the out side well.. I was going to call them to find out a size, but figured somebody on here had to be running one..

Outerwears makes one for the 400EX UNI filter.

I had one on my "old style" long 400EX UNI filter. I am now running the new style 400EX UNI, which is shorter (similar to stock filter length), and has the filter cage stud protruding through the foam at the top of the filter. The old style UNI never had this stud poking out.

I would call up Outerwears to verify which style the prefilter is made for.

Yep, that's the current filter I have as well, but I don't have an Outerwear for the newer style yet. They do help a lot in preventing the foam from getting clogged up prematurely, and also deflect any water.

No dice man, the UNI is about an inch longer and has a smaller diamater than the K&N and those prefilters are a very tight fit.

Like others have said, you can get outerwears to cover the UNIs. C&D Racing (site sponsor) sold me the ones I used to use.

Make sure you work the oil into the filter when you're oiling. Both stages of foam rely on oil to filter out the fine dust. You should see oil penetration on the inside of the filter, or do as others have mentioned and cover the inside also. You can definately get too much oil, so make sure you are working (squeezing) the oil into the filter. It should completely penetrate, but not run out when you squeeze it. I like Maxima Foam Filter Treatment (FFT). You pour it on while you're working it in. It's very tacky, which is desirable on the filter and undesirable on your hands, haha. Hope this helps.
