I have a 04 Z400 and it sounds like a Singer Sewin machine when its at idle. It dont get any worse as I ride. Does this sound like the valves are out of adjustment? if so how hard are they to adjust? I have also been told that the timeing chain could be loose, any help would be appreciated. I bought this quad in the spring from the origanal owner and its all stock.

An easy way to check the chain.. under your right leg is the cam chain tensioner, by nature the had a problem of too much tension. You can remove the bolt think its a 12mm, careful there is a spring under there, pull it. Start the quad an let it idle, then I usually use a scratch awl, and press in the hole that will put tension on the chain, if it dosent click your out of adjustment meaning the chain is stretched and if you press a firm the noise goes away than its a sure deal its your chain.
