I cant tell for sure from the picture, but it may be a 88-89 swingarm thats been powdercoated. Better pictures would help, If its aftermarket, some of them didnt come with skid plate mounts. Im not 100% sure, but i think the only difference is the 88-89 had a shorter dogbone linkage, so the skid plate didnt have to hang as low on those models, the 86 had a longer dogbone, so the skidplate had to be made with a bigger dip in it to keep the linkage from hitting. As far s i know, that should be the only difference between the skid plates.

Maybe someone else will chime in and help. But I say order a skid plate for a 88-89, I think most of the aftermarket swingarms were modeled after those swingarms.

86-87 had the steel swing arm... 88-89 had an aluminum swing arm.

The swing arm you posted is not a stocker.

All years of swing arms used the same mounts as far as i know. and im almost positive that all aftermarket swing arms used OEM bolt pattern for the swing arm as well, so that they where a direct replacement part.

After looking at my 88 its possible, i thought for a minute that the 88-89 only had 2 holding bolts but they do indeed have 4...

i would need to see closer photos of it to tell if its a OEM or not.

thanks for that

Looks aftermarket to me. Put a magnet to it.
The 88 to 89 0EM skidplate has different mount locations than the 86 and 87.

Was the 4 locking bolts counter sunk on the oem aluminum swingarm ??.

I will get a better pic tomorrow.

It is not stock I dont think because between the four hex bolts that tighten the carrier there is nothing in between.
Looking at pics of standard swingarms there is a hole in the middle that looks like it takes a bolt to stop the carrier from moving.

i say stock 88/89, the pinch bolt area looks just like the 88/89
and i can't remember of any aftermarket company adding that much steel across the top of the carrier area. if it were indeed a steel swingarm.
the only thing that makes me second guess myself is the the tabs for the linkage strut. dont quite look stock 88/89 unless it is the color that gives out an optical illusion. and also those tabs would be thinner on a steel swingarm.
oh yeah, and the bolt you are looking for in the center of the carrier, was only found on the 86/76 steel swingarms.

OK! Your help has benn great. Now I think it may be Standard 1988-89 however it is steel because it has been chromed. Now heres thr thing it doesn't have a chain guide or any where to mount to, I am talking about the guide that mounts in front of the rear sprocket.

Man this forum really is good and great that we can bounce of each other, Keep up the good work team

If it dont have one of those chain guides, need to try & fab one up & get it in place, because 9 times out of 10, not having that guide is why the chain jumps off & end up busting the left case.

That was probably one of Honda's best design's, for Honda that is, no chain guide so they could sell more left hand case halfs.
