Ok, I've looked through zrpilot's install and know how to do it all, but I got a couple questions he didn't cover. The TPS on the side, what do I do with it? Leave it and clip the wires or take it off? Also the heater wires, what do I do with them? Clip them or take them off? I might have a few more questions after I actually try to install it, but this is it for now.

I just cut them both.

Clipped them as well. Left the sensors on as I wasnt sure if it would effect anything.

I decided to dig this old thread up to ask one more question about that 450R carb. Is it really necessary to re-locate the top vent hose? Will it not clear at all or will it barely? I would re-locate mine but where would the shavings go when I drill it out? Can I just blow air into some passage to get them out or should I coat the drill bit in grease? This is the last thing I gotta do to make mine ready, just wanna clear this up so I don't mess something up at the last minute.

Just take the cover off before you drill out the vent then blow it off before you put it back on. Presto!

By cover do you mean the float bowl or the top plate? Or do you just mean the plastic cover over the throttle cable? Im assuming the float bowl because that's where it looks like that passage goes.

Top plate... There are two vent hoses that criss cross over the top. One of them comes straight out of the top. Take that one off and drill out the nipple on the side with a 3/16 drill bit and plug the original hole... That's the only vent line I moved when I did the swap for a buddy.

If you need a pic pm me a number to txt or an email...

I know where you're talking about. I'll give that a shot then. Did you use the 12-24UN bolt to plug it?

Nope, just some high temp rtv. No issues to report. If you use it just make sure you don't put to much in and clog the new hole drilled... If the rtv fails at any point I'm just going to fill it with JB weld.

Wow, I made a bigger deal than I needed to outta that. For some reason I thought that that vent hose was in the carb. body itself, not in the top plate. As soon as I took off the top plate and flipped it over and saw it was right there I laughed. I feel dumb. Thanks for being so reasonable Bailey, I plugged mine with RTV aswell. We'll see how it turns out.

Well I got my jet kit and 52 pilot from Jets R Us today. Is there any reason why the size of the jet is stamped on the bottom? Does JetsRUs have their own brand or is still a Genuine Kehin?

I found the same thing, some of the jets are indeed geuine keihin (side stamp with star) and some are oem spec (stamped on bottom). FWIW I had no issues with the oem spec ones except they charged me 2x the price for genuine and I got alot of oem spec.

They all work the same tho..

Huh, that's weird. Thanks.

Ok, got the carb. on and running with in on, but I got a few questions. Did you have to swap the front band clamp for a "farm store" style clamp? And do you have a small gap between the airbox boot and the shouldered edge of the ZrPilot adapter piece? I also have a 175 main, 52 pilot, 4th notch on needle and 2 out on a/f screw, does that sound good?

I used a 450 clamp I had sitting around... Not sure on the zr adapter, I had my old man machine one and it fit tight... Jetting was 180 main, middle clip and 48 pilot for us. Open air box, K&N, HRE ported head, WB MX cam, pro cuircit header with HMF can...

There is a small gap on the adapter. I use OE Honda clamps on both the intake boot and intake tube.

IMO--Your jetting sounds a bit rich on the pilot circuit. I'd recommend a 48 pilot.

Did anybody use the white plastic heat shield that goes underneath tank? And if you did I'm assuming that you chopped it up to clear the throttle cable from the carb.? Or did you just run it underneath it?

Plastic shield is in place, no mods were needed to clear the throttle cable.

Pics? I'll take a few of mine. There is no way it is gunna clear without doing something to it, the back 6" of the shield hits the throttle cable and the bolts aren't even close to getting tightened.

I did have a small gap between the air boot and zr's adapter also. I used a "farm" style clamp on both ends. The plastic heat shield caused me no problems at all. Are you trying to go under the shield or over it?

Baileygunns

We didn't use the shield... The bike didn't have one when he bought it.

Well I got the shield on. I had to take the carb and airbox off, then take the snorkel out of the airbox, connect the intake boot to the carb., then the airbox and carb. assembly got wedged in there (it is a tight fit), then tightened all my clamps and then wedged the snorkel back in the airbox. That is quite a chore to get everything to clear and fit. I'm deff. not looking forward to the day I have to take the carb. out to work on it.

What gap are you guys talking about on the adapter? is it to short or to small in diamiter?

Stickman400

No, there is just a gap between the end of the intake boot and the shouldered edge of the adapter. I thought it would seat all the way down, but only goes on and inch or so. I can take a pic if you want.

See where the gap is? That's all the way on, it doesn't look like it, but it is.
