Hey Guys! Whats up, I just joined this message board, pretty cool. I am getting either a 300 or 400 EX this summer after my weekend house is built in the Poconos;). I was just wondering if you think a 400 is to much for me, Im 12 years old and I was just wondering what you guys thought. If so, do you think the 300 is appropriate for me, I have 23 acres or so to ride on(woods) which maybe I can make some trials on.

Well thanks for your time:)

If you are over 5'8 then get a 400 if you think you can handle one but my choice would be get a 300ex then get a 400ex later on.
Welcome:)

Im 5'5", I think I will get the 300EX. Although my friend whos dad owns a Kawasaki Shop said that I wont be able to handle even a 300EX, but then again I dont think he has ever ridden a 300EX to say that.

i turned 13 in october and got the 300ex oct 20 something as my first quad.i love the 300ex and it came with lots of mods.i leanred the clutch in a snap and rode it alot to get the feel of it.im 13 years old about 5'6 and around 110 pounds and i can handle a 300ex easily and a 400ex too.i got an offer for my 300ex that i cant pass up so it all depends on if the kid is still interested.if i sell it im definitly getting a 400ex.in my opinion if you have the money i say 400ex.go easy on it in the beggining and know your limits but overall the 400ex is better everywhere except reverse.if i could do it again id get a 400ex but my quad was a great deal anway..it sounds like you have alot of area so i think the 400ex would be better so you dont have to worry about wanting anoither quad in a while..its mostyly up to you if you want the 400ex so you dont need to look for a new quad in a few months

Well then theres always the dealer that will lead you to the smaller bike so you dont kill yourself on the first run;)

I like the looks of the 400EX, my dad is probably buying the quad as a "family toy" or something like that but I will be doing most of the riding;):blah

if i were you id get the 400ex if i had the little extra cash. i had one at my house when i was 12 and let me tell you i could hande that thing no problem. if your not comfortable going that fast then dont! its alot nicer machine for the money. imo but the 300 is still a great quad!

Personally I like speed, but I dont like speed while ridding behind my neighbor on a snowmobile:eek2: The last time we went out, it was really awesome but it seemed like we were going 100 MPH.. I think we were;) He said we only went 40, liar!

Do the dealers let you try them out? Because when I wanted a Lakota I asked my friend if his dad lets people test drive them and he said "No" because someone could like crash them?

if your only 12 i would say go with the 300ex, i am 13 and i have a 300ex and it has plenty of powr , you are taller than me by like 4 or 5 inches tho

i would say go with the 300ex. i think you are to big (height wise) for a little 90 or 110. the 300ex has plenty of power to start with and then some for woods and your ability. if your new you dont always have to gun it. the 400ex will knock you right over if you pop the clutch. the 300 will just put you back in your seat a bit. if you like the 300 and get experienced you can move to the 400ex. i think it will be fine for you. what am i talking about. im 16, 6"5 and 270 and i still ride a 250!

I weigh 140, I will probably get the 300 EX anyway because if the dealer is smart he will tell my parents that the 400 will knock me off and may be to powerful;)

no offense to you guys, but he should really ride them and find out what he likes.

i dunno about where you live but they let you here. if i was the person buying the quad i'd tell them you need to ride it before you buy it. how can they honestly expect you to spend 5k or so with their company and not test it out? hmm maybe bring up that point.

serriously though dude you should ride them to find out what suits you personaly.

That would kind of be humiliating though, cause I dont know how to use the shifter so it would take time to learn it.;)

ok if you dont even know how to shift than a clutch is really gonna mess you up and so are the gear patterns, maybe look at a 250ex

Yea I dont know if your gunna be riding with me anytime soon, the builders are just getting finished with the blocks, then they can start the frame. Then they need to regain the money, then they will talk about it, im so mad!

ya i guess i sorta forgot your 12 too, so i meen something like a 300ex would be nice. i don't know how big you are but i'm sure it would be more for you to have to horse arround a 400ex than it would be for me. i meen as far as not having reverse goes. plus the 400 really is pretty fast, especialy for someone who doesn't have much riding experince. it takes time to learn the clutch for the first time too, so hehe i wouldn't recomend make your self look like a noob haha.
