hey guys i have a 2003 400ex and right now it has a cobra on it (1 word, JUNK)... i have been looking at other pipes but don't know what to get. i found a good deal on a white brothers e2 pipe on ebay but i want to know which pipe does best, i ride alot of trails so top end isn't a huge priority... also i want it to have a good sound, not deafening but not too quiet either. am i asking for too much? haha... let me know what you guys think!

cant go wrong with HMF or FMF, but really Lexx is probably the best bang for your buck.

HMF sounds the best in my opinion but they are $$$

If i remember right, slip on is all low end, and your header is what gives you your top end but dont quote me on that.

yeah i've been looking at the hmf, i don't like fmf or lexx though... i have looked at the hmf sport, ballance, and ironman but don't know which one makes the most power or sounds best or both... you got any ideas? i've also been looking at the supertrapp ids2, it sounds good but i'm not sure of the power gains.

slip on's wont give you much power but when they do it is usaly down low and mid ^^as cody stated. the ironman is nice becuase all the inserts you can get for it.

aftermarket exhausts really will not show you that much difference of a power gain if you compare them.

I think White Bro's and Curtis Sparks are the best power gain for the 400ex.

The Ironman, and Ballance HMF pipes are the same as the competiton series, with different caps and a higher price. Though for some reason i still always wanted a ironman slip on. :D

well i've seen the ironman for 400ex's before but can't find it now... maybe hmf stopped making them for 400's? i see them for 450r's... hmf has the ballance and it seems to be about the same?

hmm idk i always saw it on motosport but its gone now.

Idk if a 450R slip on mounts up or not

hopefully somebody chimes in on this because if a 450r slip on will work then i'll look at some of them but probably go for the hmf ironman.

motorworks hands down. or dmc, idk why more people dont run dmc. they look great, sound good, and work good.

450r slip ons will not work on a ex. they can be made to but it requires cuting and welding. and im with smitty the motoworks are great pipes!!!

motoworks just seems to be really quiet... and by dmc, do you mean the alien (before they stopped making them for 400's) or the newer afterburn? and which pipe has a good deep sound, good power gains, and depending on how loud, the loudest of the bunch? i want it to be loud but not deafening like my cobra is.

i never understood this reasoning. seems immature/ irresponsible to me.

no like i don't mean it as in really loud, i just want a good deep throaty sound from the exhaust... i hate my cobra because it is literally deafening and it's keeping me from riding at alot of places i normally would go. from most vids i've seen of the motoworks it just seems too quiet for my taste, but maybe it's just the vids (most of them are bad quality anyways)... does anybody on here got vids of their exhausts?

I have a Yoshimura on my bike and I love it. It's pretty loud but I've definitely heard louder.

Your cobra exhaust sounds like it needs to be repacked, it sounds super hollow.

^^^ that's because there's nothing in it, the PO gutted it out so it's a straight pipe.

HMF all the way if you want the best performance. I like my Lexx but it had to be custom fit b/c the way it clamps over the header (or lack thereof) sucks.

I've got a Pro Circut T-4 slip-on on my 400ex, and all I do is trail ride. It's not too high of a price compared to some, lots of power in all ranges I find, and not all that loud but it's got a nice amount of bark.

I also have a start up and sound of my t-4 in hd if you want to watch it

alright i think i've decided on hmf unless i decide to buy this white brothers e2 i'm looking at. what hmf is best? hmf sport (or performance series, they're the same), hmf competition series, or hmf ballance? i looked and they must have quit making hmf ironman's for the 400ex but i've heard the ballance is the same so i may go with it. either way let me know what series you think is best and i'll go from there.

I run a dmc afterburner. There was a graydon pro line exhaust on it when i bought the bike.It was loud and sounded like crap.I have had diffrent exhaust on other bikes and i like my dmc the best.Decent power gain and its not all that expansive.

OR if anyone has a white brothers mx4 or MAYBE e-series with all the discs and backing plate they would be willing to sell for a good price i'll buy it off you. or if you know where one is for sell for a good price then could you give me the link? on ebay the e-series are missing the discs and backing plates with just the end cap, there are no mx4's on ebay.

I bought my Motoworks slip-on from a member on this forum and think it's the best sounding pipe for an EX. Along with grinding the header welds and doing the airbox lid mod, I have better low and mid range power. Check it out it's only $209:http://www.motoworks.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_60_26_45&products_id=28

i heard that it is only 93 db's though (not sure if that's with the quiet core or not) and i am looking more for something around 98 db's give or take.

hmf only makes sport and comp i believe right now, cant go wrong with an hmf slipon and grind the welds out on the header, but sparks does make the most power...

if someone can vouch on it being 98-100 db's without then i might just get it, can anybody chime in on this?

The G2 motocross version is 94db compliant and not available for the 400ex. The website doesn't list the db level for the pipe I have, but I can call them tomorrow.

I think that Motoworks and Hmf are the best pipes and the best bang for your buck. Pipes arent giving you that much power.. theyre more for the sound and airflow anyways. The hmf is loud and is real deep and throaty. In my opinion the Motoworks looks the best and is loud. The motoworks can be quiet when you need to and loud when you crank it out. Motoworks is what i run and i wouldnt run anything else on an ex. Prices are coming down to.
