Could be a number of things but one thing that I would think it was is that the ring end gaps were not correct. Meaning the rings were too tight and couldnt expand when hot. This could be a reason.

lack of oil would be my first impression and looking place for checking all filter elements and lines for blockages and the oil pump for proper function.

just my .02 though,

deff a dry motor run, the first thing i thought of when i saw that piston was heat issues, but after looking at it, it looks like steve is right, lack of oil.

Thats crazy how poorly some people take care of their machines.

;) time for a new jug too or a sleeve if you can get it in there with that 440 piston in there, those little buggers arent going to buff out lol. id suggest getting a new cylinder, the odds of having another sleeve fit in there are pretty slim and isnt advised.

How does the head look around the cam bearings and the lobes?

I have to agree with most of them on here about the lack of oil. Also, just thinking about it....the person who installed the 440 kit could have possibly put the piston on backwards? meaning the intake valves are on the exhaust valve side of the piston and visa versa. Just a good thought as to what i think happened.

no oil or using 2 different oils that refused to mix. likely just no oil tho.
