Very nice! Looking forward to seeing this come together...Did you build the JIG yourself? What frame geometry is it?

Looks beefy. I wonder what will have taken more time - making the jig or building the frame?

john willhoite
11-29-2011, 05:07 PM
Its not my jig.

Its my new Walsh Hybrid being born!

Very nice man !

Is it the new LTR/CRF FI bike?

If so how much do you think it will end up costing to build ?

john willhoite
11-30-2011, 03:50 PM
Yes, it's the new hybrid.
I am keeping track of what it cost.
So I will know a grand total in the end.
It is going to be alot. I don't know if I should post how much everything is, it would just give people reason to be critical.

You get what you pay for in life john dont let haters even phase you. I think you made a hell of a step in the right direction :)

As long as you know it's not an investment, you will never see a monetary gain, it will be money well spent.

The way I look at it:
I'm 38 years old and this will be the last quad I ever buy.

So everything on it is going to be just how I want it.

today I got
Frame, Subframe, and steering stem.
I ordered the whole thing on 11/01/11

Kinda thinking it should be quicker.

Seriously that frame looks awesome!

01-18-2012, 07:52 PM
The chassis is dialed. I think you got it in a reasonable time frame. You gotta figure in thanksgiving Christmas and new years. Plus the turn around time for the powdercoater.

You won't even remember how long you waited after the first time you ride it.

Jerry

01-18-2012, 08:12 PM
yeah, I'm in a crappy mood today.

Still waiting on swingarm, gas tank, a arms, and a couple of other little things.

Its hard to wait patiently for this kinda stuff.

89trx250r
01-18-2012, 10:01 PM
They probably are making a bunch of stuff considering Europe has a huge market for hybrids they sold the first bunch of them to people over seas and not to mention like laeger400 said all the holidays fall in between then and now. But she is a beauty and i love the sun yellow color :) cant wait to see it come together!

Nicee dude! does that motor come with the kit from walsh or did you get it thru service honda or a dealer? shes beauitful and so fresh cant wait to see it in the frame :)

laeger2fiddyr
02-02-2012, 05:53 AM
Yeah did you buy the motor from service honda? Just curious as to where you got it from? Cant wait to see the finished product!

john willhoite
02-02-2012, 07:26 AM
I bought the motor from a place called Keep It Roostin. They were parting out a brand new bike. Got all the electronics, fuel pump and throttle body.

3 months and still waiting on parts from Walsh. Lack swingarm, gas tank, linkage and kicker extension.

I cant believe how lite it is, of course the last motor I had in my hands was my kids 300ex motor. This motor feels like it weighs 40lbs, I am going to weigh it today.

how much is this thing going to cost you

89trx250r
02-07-2012, 06:35 PM
To be conservative id say 15,000-20,000$ that was easily what it cost to build walsh hybrids and a nasty 250r back in the day....Hell a lobo frame used to cost 12,000 :x

Very curious to know the geometry differences between this and an actual oem frame. I thought the rear was identical, but the front seems narrower then stock, but not as narrow as a walsh R chassis. His quotes say "loosely based off ltr"

Looks great time to put in work! One of the things I'm most impressed with in Walsh's new stuff is the attention to detail. That's what I would want in my stuff, and its the extra mile in atv land. Great job, on a truly "finished" product Walsh!

That's going to be an awesome machine; Great build! I first saw this set up in last month's Dirtwheels; theirs was around 350lbs with 50-55hp!

Is the frame only compatible Walsh parts i.e. a-arms, swingarm, stem, etc?

If I remember right, the one in Dirtwheels had primarily LTR450 parts?

hwf-racing

Wow, the build is awesome! I can't wait to see it done. What does your son say about it ? I still have your Raptor and I just finished my hybrid build on the practice Raptor. Put a Crf 250 in the little Raptor frame. Very quick and much lighter. I'll keep looking for updated pics...can't wait to the finished product!

I don't know who you were building it for - yourself or son? But unless you are hurting for money, there is no way you should sell it before finishing it and riding for at least a season. Even with everything brand new you'd probably only get back 75% of costs.

We have raced for the past 5 years.
So basically we havent gone on vacation or any trip other than racing. My wife got a bit tired of it and wanted to change.

We live on 30 acres and even have a really nice mx track. We just sold our house and have bought a house on a golf course.

So I am selling my dream life. Land, ATVs, Toyhauler, F-450, my cool tractor, all so my kids can go to school where there mother wants them to.

She has done everything me and my 4 boys have wanted for the last 5 years, so I dont feel to bad giving it all up.

I plan on getting good at golf. However I would like to take the quad on the golf course I think i could clear at least 5 of the greens.

Dude dont sell it! Even if you are moving and getting outa the sport. I wouldnt sell unless you really are hurting for money. Keep it as a garage queen even if it only gets rode 1-2 times a year. I saw you have your can-am for sale too. build your dream and hang on to her.

It is a designer metallic epoxy flooring system that our company installs using a high build, 100% solid industrial epoxy.

Oh ok cool. So can the materials be purchased and self installed or does the company have to do it?

The new Hybrids are nice, I just wish Walsh would set these up to run the Trx450r or 250r plastics, Ltr plastics are horrible.

I'm sure they can make it look however u want. Just takes $$$$ . When the trxmxr came out I thought it was awful it's evolved and is better now with hoods and what not. But I think the yfz and ltr are the best looking bikes out there and much more slim and trim around the tank.

I would recommend having a professional install it. Materials alone for my two car garage cost me a little over $1,000 for the epoxy. It is some tough stuff though. Not like your cheap home depot stuff that peels off in a few months.

An average job I do for my customers on a two car garage normally costs around $3,000+ to install these systems.

Ok cool. I checked out the site and realized it was more of a professional install job. I definitely want to go this rite when I add on my detached garage/man cave. Do you guys only do installs in TX?

Yea I don't know if you were fishing with that comment or what but who gives a ****? It would have been cooler if you told us your friend built one for 50,000$ and had the entire head gold plated....But what you said was just pointless.

The point was I just have a hard time believing he paid 25000 for an unfinished quad. Is he fishing for people to be envious? *shrugs shoulders*

It was pretty much finished. If u read the build u can see where and why it cost so much...very viable. Tons of titanium. All new components. New motor with headwork Hinson etc.. no he didn't get it gifted at half price like everyone buying thinks they are entitled, but got what he paid for. Go build one envious. Show us how cheap u can do it, so we can all oooo and ahhh.

Does anyone know how it rides compared to a LTR for instance.

I have raced suzukis for a few years. The way it rides feels closer to a suzuki than the old school 250r hybrids. It doesnt feel like a 250r hybrid at all really. The bike feels extremely light in the air. With how light the machine is the power transfer awesome. It really gets the power to the ground fast. Very fun to ride! I have gotten the front end dialed in pretty well. I am excited to get some fox shocks on it and see how it rides.

By chance do you know what header you are using on your quad? Or was it all custom done? Im wondering if the 04-05 trx headpipes have the right angle to fit on the head and inside the ltr frame.

Dasa sold Walsh an unwelded exhuast for their hybrid. The headpipe looks similar to the stock 09-12 CRF.
