1999 400ex no spark

hi I'm working on my brothers 400ex. one day he said it lost spark after sitting overnight. I put new coil stator cdi box and wiring harness. still no spark. Then he tells me he can take to key out when it's running and ride it. So i started turning it on and off when turning over and i would get a spark once in a while. wouldn't hold a spark though. Any one have this problem? Think it's the key switch?

Yep sounds like the ignition switch to me..

i could yank the key and ride my ex to never bothered me tho id check the switch then the stator

well for anyone that has this prob don't be an idiot and over look the plug wire like me. After spending 250+ on wiring harness, cdi box, coil, stator,key switch and handle bar on and off and light switch. just put a new plug wire on. Runs like a beast again. Thanks for your input though!!!

this happened to mine the spark plug wire came out of the spark plug boot and it washing getting contact. Either you can push the wire back inside the boot and tape it up or you could get a new one either way works fine
