Hey guys from all the pics/vids I've seen I cant tell how many are running skid plates and how necessary they are for mx? I recently installed long travel fronts and it looks like I might be scraping my frame a little on landings and take offs? Maybe they were there before from trail stuff and just barely noticed. What are you guys running?

i try to always run a under bottom frame/engine becuase a rock or hard landing could hit the bottom of the motor and ruin a good day. also a swinger skid is good to have for if you bottom out to help save on sprokets and rotors but not imho as important as a under engine skid. and personly i like the plastic skids that maier and (a few others sell) because there so light and pretty thick.

I personally never ran skid plates, but I wish I had atleast a swingarm skid. A lot of guys had these lightweight plastic frame skidplates that I always wanted, I forgot what brand they were but they were like $150. I think they got them from Nacs

belly skid only. and i ran a rear skid once took it off. it sits too low with mx tires for one.

most now use sprocket and disc skids and the woods guys have "bash plates" to protect the front of the linkage. Skid plates take up too much clearance on heavily rutted mx tracks and especailly in the woods.

I saw moto xperts had a plastic one for $80, like some people said it will take up some clearance meaning I would scrape even more. I don't really to trails with rocks, mostly mx, trails in the river by my house, and dunes.

Run a belly skid, but do not run a swinger skid because it will cause your bike to just stop in rutted corners

Yeah I've always just run the stock skid on my LTR even though it's a POS. If I got anything else, it would be one of those TAG plastic skids.

poly belly skid is the only way to go, it will slide when bottomed out on, they dont make noise, the clamp mounts work way better and dont rip out. Moto-Xperts make a really nice one, ive run maier ones for 5 years now but im not sure if they still make them. You def need something because your frame will get destroyed, and it helps when you bottom the frame out to have the skid to help it slide

The maier and the moto xperts are the two I've been looking at. Maier still makes them, they are about $12 cheaper than the moto xperts.
