I was going to start rebuilding my 400 for next race season but after i had a small crash the list of parts to replace got a little bigger. Ive wanted to move to a 450 for a while and was wondering if its worth it. Found an old pro bike for cheap. What do you guys think? Runs on race gas tho and i want to run 91 pump. How hard is it to switch that?

dude the ex is a great bike but if that 450 runs good snatch that up without looking back. all you have to do to run pump gas is buy a 12:5:1 piston thats it!! they may just be running race gas just because they want to . check with them see what the compression is . anything past 12:5:1 needs it like 13:1. still id get it bro!! :huh

That's a sick set-up already.. change the piston and go!

Didn't realize you're from Ontario.. I saw that on Kijiji and you're, lucky I'm not closer!

Show up with $4000 and take it home man!

This is what he just told me:

Rt now it's a 14:1 Cp piston from venom performance , u can run a 12.25:1 piston from them on pump gas. The piston is about $250 just so u know what u r getting into dollar wise. Stock piston is 11:1 u can go that route too. I ran the 12.25:1 in my yfz it worked great. The atv comes with extra set front and rear race tires, extra sub frame , extra Leo Vince slip on exhaust, stock head pipe, and bunch of other extra parts.

It's definetly a snappy bike if it's got a 14:1 piston in it. If you can afford race gas, there is some HP & TQ to be had. Did he say if there is any headwork done to it?

What Series/Class are you racing next year?

Yeah it would. He didn't say anything else. Race gas gets expensive and a pain when you cant just fill up at the gas station.

actullay stock comp is 10:1 and i have one you can have in great shape for free :D but.... you go back to stock compression you are going to lose power and a 12:5:1 piston isent 250.00 i can get JE evry day on the web for 175.00. the venom performance guy is outa bussiness on the pistons anyway buy it dude!!!! ill send you the link for the JE (best u can buy) for 175 and your set for the whole season :chinese:

It looks like a pretty sweet quad. Do you have access to E85? You could run that instead of race gas.

I have a friend who bought a similarly built 450R and he put in a lower compression piston (12.25:1) and he still couldn't run straight 93 without issues. He bought an 07 450R FCR carb and now it runs 50/50 E85 and 93.

Also, his had a heavily ported head and larger valves. After he put in the lower compression piston, it ran like crap. My stock KFX450 could pull his 450R all day without issues, my 416 was very, very close as well. He ended up buying a stock head and having it mildly ported and now it runs great. So just replacing a piston may not be all that is involved.

Fox floats are a complete pain to get setup correctly. You will be constantly adjusting them for temperatures/altitude changes and track conditions. I was blown away by how much different they felt on a warm day vs a cool day at the same track. The performance was alright but nothing you couldn't get out of a less finicky conventional style shock.

Also, make sure it has had the crank bearings replaced. I'm sure it has but you should check just to be safe.

I'd say go for it as long as the price is right and the crank bearings have been replaced.

If it wasn't such a distance I'd buy it for that price. It cost me a fortune to go pick it up. We run the 110 and 93 octane mix. The dirt track guys say they are getting more horsepower out of that with the crate motors than the straight 110.

I'd be sad to see your 400ex go but that is a steal of a deal! The swap would be an easy one and there's plenty of parts for the 450r's as well. You could probably pick up a really good piston. But just the front end of that quad alone is about the same price as the entire quad! Go buy it!

btw anything you want to sell off of that 400 of yours? ;)

haha yeah i hate to see the 400 go and especially after i tore it down and repainted some parts and really cleaned it up. 400 has been great and a solid running quad. Want more power tho and i cant pass this deal up! What parts are you looking for? I know getting parts shipped to Canada was crazy expensive. My shocks were sent marked gift so it would be cheaper and it still cost me over $100 for bordering fees and stuff

Shame you weren't selling that beast before I bought my 400ex or I probably would have bought it strait up man. The only problem for me is the reverse issue, I would be right dinked without that but I could have gotten a newer bottom end and popped it on.
