I am needing a new frame and found an 88 frame on craiglist and will probably buy it. It comes with a swingarm so I wont need that, and i know I will need foot pegs but is there anything else that wont switch over from my 86?
thanks.

matching rear shock
linkage dog-bone
and rear grab bar come to mind.

Your a-arms won't fit the 86 ones are way bigger where they bolt on....

I have an extra rear shock and dog bone that came with my bike, it looks like a stock 88-89. Is there anyway I can confirm this? I thought a-arms would swap over. If not I probably wont buy this frame then if I have to get new arms.

A arms will swap over, bushings and seals are a different setup and the uppers are camber adjustable. I ran 86-87 a arms on my 88 frame for a long time. Rear shock must match linkage as previously said, 88 linkage/ dogbone is shorter. You can run the older swing arm on the newer frame but you will gain 1" and you have to cut the top mount off of the rear engine mount, you will see it if you try it. I also ran the older swing arm on my 88' because I had one laying around when mine cracked. Little things like someone said the rear grab bar, but it can be done without much trouble.

Another thing that is different is your foot pegs.

Hmm, ill think about it. I called on the 88 frame last night and it sold anyways. but I just started tearing into my motor and its not pretty. At this point I dont even know if my bike is worth rebuilding, its needing alot of stuff. It might be cheaper to find a running 250r and just swap my good parts to another bike.
