I was getting ready to do little work on my 440. I was going to put a bigger oil tank and a spal fan, do you guys think that would be enough. I live in southern ms and the summer heat is pretty rough. I've also read about an "auxiliary" cooler people have used?? If anyway possible I would like some more info on that. if I could get y'all opinions and maybe products used and how tos. I would greatly appreciate it.

i have a spal fan on the stock oil cooler and i also have an aux cooler mounted in the front frame the oil goes through the aux cooler then the stock cooler with the fan then to the tank

I am getting ready to start a dual stock cooler project on my bike. Plan is to turn each cooler up long ways and stick one in each of the scoops. Should work well and look great as well..
But as mentioned the fan works well just on the stock cooler.

Imho the fst oil cooler is the best but it is difficult to install and might be expensive

Yah might have to mod the scoops some because they are a little shorter then the coolers, but I can make it work.. :D

A larger dual stack/twin row cooler would be best. There are ones that fit in the frame quite well with just some brackets you need to make and some fittings you need to buy/add.

Look under import trans coolers, say for a honda.

My thing is unless you are desert riding and beating the bike, even the standard cooler with a bigger resi does fine.. Not that I am some know it all but I have beat this bike in the heat on a stock set up other then the bigger resi, it has done just fine..

I agree with ya. I am running stock cooler with just a bigger oil tank and have never had any issues. from summer heat 100 deg to now 30-50's.. I have beat on the bike good to.. But optimal oil temp is about 220ish.. Never heat tested it but I think I could be over that..

I don't have an issue with it either when I had the stock cooler. I just run it with an extra cooler and a fan just because it cools it just in case

My 440 doesnt have any heat issues, I found that it runs alot cooler with larger jetting.

If I run a 195 main jet ill over heat and notice it here in the florida climate.

If I run a 220 main jet, I will have no issues even with riding for hours on end and it runs alot better.

A 220 might work for me but for others it will probaly be less, just figured Id throw that out there.

Also I use a computer fan on my oil cooler.......sometimes.

My 400 used to have a 440 jug on it. They used a four stroke tech cooler on it. It keeps the temperatures really low on my 400, I am pretty happy with it. They still make the secondary oil cooler (assuming that FST stands for Four Stroke Tech). Retails for $130. Like I said mine is great and really does work. I have it mounted right in the front between the shock resi's

i've had my 440 without anything but aluminum scoops and it ran fine. i usually ride about 5 hours every other day in pretty muddy stuff so it get's pretty ridden.

if you want somthing simple and that does work just get inline coolers. they look like they have fins on them. put a couple of them on and there you go.
