I've got a full HmF exhaust and k&n and a 170 main 40 pilot with a adj needle on 3rd notch. Problem is while riding trails in say second gear when I wide open throttle is stalls a bit more toward bottom end and I once on it for a second starts to rip! I don't think my problem is te main jet or the pilot and see alot of people 3rd notch on the clip, any ideas what could be my problem? Also just noticed that since adjusting the needle clip when I first fire it up the carb seems to choke a bit, like hiccup. I'm stumped

imo it is rich on the main. around a 158 would be better suited for you, start with that and do a plug chop to see how it looks.

might be able to go down to a 155.

what f.a screw setting are you at also? should be around 2.5 turns out from lightly seated with that 40 in there.

Ok imma get another main and a plug and give it a try. The f.a screw is a weird screw and I don't have the tool to turn it. Should I go with a 42 spin don't hVe to touch it?

get a few different sizes. 155, 158, 160, 162 should over you for what you need to do.

if you have a 42 you could try but i wouldnt buy one, id try to turn the screw a bit.

you shouldnt need your choke really either, you can just pump the throttle 3-5 times and it should fire up. if not you are too lean on your pilot and would have to go out on your f/a screw a bit. usually a 1/2 turn helps out.

stock turns is 2.25 out fyi.

.22 shell with one edge smashed a bit to make the D is also supposed to work. havent tried it though.

dyno jet makes a tool also thats like 10 bucks or something. you have to call them to get it though, its not on their site.

Buying a carb rebuild kit they usually have the standard slotted screw.

yeah, a stubby screwdriver is all i need to adjust mine. As long as I adjust when the motor is cool, no problems. I've seen people selling 90 degree tools to adjust these screws, but they're like $30 and I'm just too cheap for that.
