i ve heard 04-5 heads only work on their model bikes and 06 up only work on theirs,

but i recently told that if u had a 450R not ER 06+ u could run an 04-5 cylinder?
anyone know about this,
i thought that changed the dimensions or the way they heads attached

Bore is different and I think the water jacket is different... So the jugs wont swap...

The CRF head will bolt up to the 06^ but you lose the thermostat and the angle for the coolant line is different... The angle for the header is a little different too but will work.

so if i had an 04-5 trx450R and an 06 TRX450R head would they be interchangeable?

I know that you can put a crf head on a trx, is it 04/05 crf head and trx compatibe and the 06 plud trx head compstibe with the crf hed

04/05 and 06^ heads are not interchangeable...
CRF and 06^ are interchangeable with minor mods...

I think blacksheep uses crf heads on his TPC builds. Her would be a good person to ask about it.

yes like stated, 04-05 heads and cylinders are not interchangable with anything.

You cannot interchange any of the cylinders, 04-05 have 94mm bore and 06+ has 96 mm bore. 02-08 CRF heads can be made to work on 06+ TRX

when u say the 02-08crf heads can be made to fit 06 +trx heads, do you have to do the same mods to make them work

They bolt right on. Then as Baily said you have to use some diff radiator hose on the upper side where the thermostat used to be on the Trx head. But the head itself is a straight bolt on deal. Im running a complete 06 Crf head on my 08 with a 14:1 piston and it RIPS. Its the hardest pulling stock bore bike ive rode and I've had full Baldwin and Quinn heads both with oversize valvetrains before.
By far the best and easiest mod I've ever put on any of my Trx's.

so the Cam's are different on the 2009-2012 bikes... i just found this out. are the heads themselves different or just the cams?

I know the heads are different inside. Not sure about bolting up. i know after 07 or 08 they have smaller valves and started changing stuff. 04-06 are the same and are the best ones to get i hear. I know i can vouche for my 06 head

Just posting to confirm that you can use the crf head, but like others posted you need a different radiator hose connection because its different

Here is a CRF head on a TRX engine. Please note I run this in a trike that uses CRF radiators and hoses. I also do not need the thermostat because the CRF radiators get much more airflow then the quad. The hoses and thermostat will be your only real issues to deal with.

At first your carburator will come in at a slightly differant angle But, with some effort it will go on. After it has been on some time the rubber will reform itself and it will go on and off much easier.

The exhaust port on the CRF is positioned more to the right of the engine. Also notice the water inlet to the right. It is not in the picture but, you will also need the elbow and o-ring that go there. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff223/motomanimal32/TPC/DSC05115.jpg

compared to the TRX

This can cause some pipes to have clearence issues by the back of the frame were it goes through.

You will also need to use TRX studs as the CRF ones are too short. TRX left, CRF right.

Hopefully, this will be the last time I have to answer this. There are at least a dozen threads on this forum dealing with this. I asked the mods to combine it into one thread but, no luck!

I try to tell em man. To save em from huntin you down like i did. Thanks for all your help when i was askin all the questions. So glad i listened and did the swap.

And i agree. Mods... Sticky or something. Im sure black sheep wouldnt mind writing one thread to end all the confusion and his PM box being blown up.
