I've got a 400ex is it ok to turn it upside down. I need to figure out what size the oil drain screw is because I want a trail tech oil temp gauge. So is it ok to turn my quad upside down?

Why do you need to flip it upside down to do that? Are you needing to remove the bolt? Just stand it up on the grab bar. Or maybe someone on here will know the size.

Just turn the gas off and stand it up on the grab bar. If you have it stood up for a while, let it sit so the oil settles back in the crankcase.

I am wanting to flip it upside down because I want to remove the drain bolt without draining any oil out of the tank

Ok so I am wanting to put one of these in my oil tank to monitor the oil temp
http://www.trailtech.net/VA-14125.html
They have several different sizes I've called they and they said they don't have the info, I don't want to take any oil out because I just put new clutch plates in it put it back together. then I realized I put a part in wrong so I had to open it again so I drained the oil twice. And it was last week that I changed the oil so I don't need to change it again or buy anymore oil.

Or do you think that bolt screws into where the dipstick is? Or the drain plug?

Take a vacuum and duct tape a small hose to it that fits over the oil tank hole and turn it on, oil shouldnt come out due to vacuum pressure.

But seriously, why dont you just change your oil at the same time?

Could just drain out the oil and put it back in too.

I didn't want to change the oil because I've changed it twice in 1 day last weekweek because I didn't put the clutch in right.

Yea I will just drain the oil out of the tank then pour it back in, thanks cjm. I will call them tomorrow to figure out if you put it in the drain hole or the dip stick

I hear ya. I think you would get a better reading at one of the oil lines or the bottom of the oil tank.

The oil lines, I didn't think about that where could I put a temp on the oil lines?

Right before the oil cooler in line, oil would still be pretty hot. All you need is to cut the hose slightly shorter, add temp sensor in the middle and make a new hose to attach to the cooler.

If you put one in the oil drain plug area Im pretty sure your gonna rip it out sooner or later.

I have a full chassis skid plate do you still think it would get ripped out? How would you cut the lines to make sure it is a smooth cut?

Still chance it could rip out imho.

To cut the lines I would use a pipe cutter.

Why are you worried about temps? Its a 400ex, not a fancy 450r. It will run pretty much so long as you dont suck up water and change the oil regularly.

True, but I just got the trail tech computer and I want all of the accessories on it to work.

as far as i ever knew, the temp probe was supposed to go on the spark plug but they might have changed it.

Seriously?? Your talking 8 bucks for oil :/ Drain it and do it the correct way, or drain the oil into a pan, then just add it again once you figure out what your doing..

I took the drain plug and trailtech doesnt make a small enough screw to fit in it :( so any tips where i should mount the other temp sensor to read oil temp. i was thinking on one of the oil line but im not sure if that would give an accurate temp reading or should i just put it on the cylinder head?
