So I bought a 400ex and didn't know what all was done to it. I'm completely redoing it and need help identifying this carb. I'm thinking/hoping it's an fcr but Idk. I'm going to measure the bore's tomorrow with a micrometer.

That is a stock 400ex carb. Now it is a Keihin carb but not an FCR.

Thanks for the replies. So now I need help finding information on putting a yzf426 Carb on a 400ex. Trying to decide on using the 426 Carb or the edelbrock on my 416.

The 04-05 trx450 carb is the best bolt on and go to do.. It is the easiest to get to fit.. The FCR is going to be a bit more of a pita to work..

Hmm.. might have to get rid of the FCR and edelbrock and do that then.

Which fcr? My 39mm was a direct bolt on.

Well I have an FCR from a 426/400ex hybrid with boyeson quick shot and screw and a normal edelbrock Carb from another 400ex and I'm trying to figure out witch to use. Its going on a 416 11/1 with all mods besides big valves. Port polish stage 2 can no base gasket the works for a 416 but I'm running stock valves.

I want pics too! Only mods I've heard you have to do is shim the tank to raise it a bit and make an adapter to lengthen the intake side of the 426 Carb.

To use the 04-05 450 carb you need to open up the intake boot, intake manifold with a dremel because the diam of both sides of that carb is a bit bigger then the stock 400.. This is fact

There is no mods to do for 39mm fcr. Bolt on and go! It has been a championship bike with that carb and setup in my sig.

Did you do this or just buy the bike like that, seems every body else has to do some type of tweaking and modding to get that carb in there... Here are some pics I found doing a half ***** search on the web.. Def does not look like a head up bolt on by any means.. And you can clearly see from the pics..

Here is a thread giving some info about the install.. There are many more on this as well.. Reason I said the 04-05 is the least amount of work to fit..

I built the quad myself for racing xc. The carb you post looks a little different from mine. Mine is 39mm fcr sparks. It does not have a choke. I will try to post a pic of it in the bike.

Just found that thread and I've been reading it over and over. Just trying to decide which Carb to use because one of them is going up for sale.

Well then it is not the same as the fcr we are talking about LOL.. The 39fcr you need mods from everything I have ever seen.. Diff fuel line, modify the boots on the intake and filter side..

So the 39mm carb for a YFZ is a tighter fit in the 400 than the one off a 450R? I was thinking about getting a bigger carb on mine this winter but that looks like it barely fits and is a hack job to get it in there.

Here is the 04 05 450r carb on my bike.. I am not sure how much more power or response you will get from the fcr carb.

It is a little bit of grinding and trimming the intake boot and filter boot, but it does go in there, much easier then the fcr style carb..

Hmmm...I'm faced with 3 decisions now.
1-Sale the FCR and go with the edelbrock
2-Sale the Edelbrock and go with FCR
3-Sale the Edelbrock and FCR and try to find an 04/05 TRX450R carb ready to bolt on to my 400.

Just gotta figure out which one to do.

From all I have ever read the edy carb is hit or miss, as far as performance, they do not make them any more and parts are about scarce.. Fcr is nice if you want to do the mods to get it to fit like it should with out it looking like a hack job. The 04-05 carb is cheap, goes in the best and looks in place with minimal mods, is a big difference over the stock ex carb..

I've found this article so that's why i'm having a hard time not going with the edelbrock.

No availability of parts and a hit or miss of a carb-I wouldnt dare touch one. Id rather the FCR or the 450r carb.

Well ill be selling the edelbrock (probably locally) and either throw the FCR on or get a trx450r Carb and put it on.

That 04-05 450R carb. looks clean on your 400 Thumpin. I'm deff. going with that when I go to get one.

Thanks man.. I do not like my stuff looking hacked which is one reason I opt for this over that big fcr getting stuffed in there.. Giving with some work, fabbing you can get it in there.. BUT like I said I do not really know how much more hp you will get over the 04-05 Carb vs the fcr.. And the fact is it seems to be a bit more work to do so..

So I'm getting ready to post the fcr and the edelbrock up for sale today and notice that the slide on the fcr isn't closing all the way. Any ideas? I'm completely retarded when it comes to jacking with the internals on an engine and dealing with carb's so any help is appreciated.
