There are a few MX guys on here that should answer the question better than I can, but I would think with your Holeshot MX's, and soon to be 416... You may like the acceleration with a 16 tooth front sprocket versus the stock 15 tooth.

This will also be a fairly quick installation... Loosening the axle carrier, rotating it til you have alot of slack, removing your front sprocket guard, removing your 15 tooth sprocket and replacing it with your new one, replacing your sprocket guard, and adjusting your chain for proper slack... That should be it!:)

I am a big fan of Renthal sprockets... Both front and rear.:)

Note: I would think for a 300 to 400 foot drag race, you would want acceleration versus top end... But with your stock setup (15/38), I think you may spin your rear tires too much. :D

A 16 tooth front wont give you more accel, it give you a little more top end. I have one and I love it. It would be great for drags and I think you would like it. I don't know how it would pull with a stock motor but I never had any noticable loss of bottom end power. With my 16 I pull 6-7 bike lengths over stock on top.

If your just wanting to be the fastest guy in a 300ft drag race, then you want to drop the front sprocket to a 14t! Even if you do get or have a 416 kit. Some guys insist the 16t is faster, but I promise you if you do timed runs with a 14 and 16t front the 14 will consistently give you faster times!! I know this from a lot of experience!!! believe me, lower gears are better for drag racing! My 505 has enough power to pull a 17t front sprocket if I wanted but I still run the 14t in the drags and get faster times with it!! The best all around gearing for a 400EX is the stock gearing!!

15 is stock, the 14 is dropping one tooth.. I run a 14T on my 400 mainly because I do mostly dune riding. In the dunes I like the bottom end power a lot more than the top end power. For a drag you need a lower tooth unless you have a long enough drag where the top end will really come in handy. Most drags thou you need a lower tooth which will get you in front right away...

I would think keeping your rear spocket would be ok... Unless you plan on replacing the chain too. I would recommend going with new chain and sprockets, especially if you have a lot of time on them.

Anyway, Renthal makes a nice aluminum rear sprocket that I have been having success with... But MX guys may have a different answer.

BTW... If you are out shopping for prices, I would include C&D Racing in your search, if you haven't already.:)
