I need help figuring out how the 04/05 carb choke works. Mainly how it raises the idle when the choke is on. Does it just give it more throttle? I know the 400ex doesnt have it like the 450. I need to know if i can raise the amount of idle on the choke when its on, because my friends bike's idle goes up alot more than mine when the choke is on. thanks for any help

assuming its just the difference in your jetting and his.
if you take the carb off and look and see what the choke actually does, youll see that it closes off the passage way into the head, letting less air through.
meaning the gas-air ratio changes. The motor doesn't get more gas, it just simply gets less air. so the rpm goes up due to there being more gas than air.

Thats how it works.
ttake off the carb and see for yourself.
