So has anyone used the CRF 450R fuel injection system on a TRX motor yet?

How did it work? Details?

was wondering this same thing...

Wanna say I saw something in the hybrid section a while ago...

i would imagine it would be pretty difficult. im sure it could be done but trying to make the stator and everything work with the trx engine would be hard. Im sure it uses some type of crank sensor as well but i never looked into it.. you would have to use the whole crf electronic system. i think the post you saw in the hybrid section was a complete crf engine in a hybrid frame.

Im not sure if anyone reads up on dirtbike info but ever since the bikes went to FI, the power went down, read MXA's current review of the new KTM 450sxf that still has a FCR, it makes the most power and when you have a properly jetted FCR, most riders pick the carb over FI. FI does have advantages but all the factory's are still trying to get back the power they lost from switching over to FI

Im not disagreeing or agreeing just stating my experience..Yes i know the FCR is a dominate carb and can make some big power for a built engine. I remember a few years back some of the pro am guys putting the FCR on high horsepowered LTRs so that definitely says alot. But for simple everyday mods its hard to beat an FI. i have a 2007 CRF450 with a full exhaust and propperly jetted FCR. My buddy has a 2009 FI CRF450 with just a slip on and it runs noticably better than my bike. But no its not enough difference that i want to try to put a FI system on my bike lol

I tried the switch but requires too much work without a special
stator cover- the FI requires a CRF FI flywheel and extra trigger mounted into the stator cover!

Thanks for the info guys.

Dyno, thats what I figured. would it not be possible to weld the trigger in the cover? Or does it just no physicly fit?

Does the flywheel need modifications? Does it only fit the 06+ or all years?

I`m thinking if the stator part of it could be done, it would only be a mather of fitting the trottle body and properly maping the ECU, right?

The flywheel fits and the cover could be modified to house the trigger by welding but I ran out of patience and money!
Would fit any year!

Is there any other sensors in the crf wiring harness that needs to be adapted to the trx motor? engine temp? air temp?

thanks for the help dyno

Walsh might can help u
they made a new crf efi hybrid and they were sold the suzuki carbs for people wanting to take FI off the zuki so I would say they have experience in the carb / fi issue

i doubt walsh has any clue about this, the hybrid they built uses a complete crf 09+ motor/electronic setup, no modifications at all

yeah the complete swap would be easy, no real mods needed. Same as just removing the LTR EFI, you just taking stuff off, not really adapting anything.

What about running the new crf motor with FCR carb?

The new Yamaha (not the R) has its fcr replaced with a butterfly style mikuni I think it was. Wonder if it has the fcr snap.. Supposed to be feather light in the thumb.

What new yamaha? The YFZ450R and YFZ450X are fuel injection.

The normal YFZ450 is no longer being made. The R and X might use mikuni stuff, but it`s EFI

yahama still makes the yfz, and it does have a mikuni carb

They dropped the efi X model for 2012 and resumed production of an updated previous model.

Smart move in my opinion. I always liked the older version.

Any input of running the new CRF motor with a carb setup?

why would you want to?

1. Ease of use in a hybrid build

2. The ltr has proven 2-3 horsepower increase with the carb swap. Not saying if the honda will or will not have the same results, but that's why I'm asking.

well i dont see the point of using the 09+ crf engine if you wouldnt want efi, just use a 08 or lower motor if you want a carb, it wouldnt be worth trying to convert the newer motor, the old one makes same power anyway

The new crf motor is sick. Head is offset from crank and would make a sick stroker motor. Put in a wide xc setup 250r style chassis.

And I want to use a carb.

Just my thoughts and intentions man. Thought I could get some info on the setup.
