I went to adjust my valves today and the intake and exhaust valves were really tight. I could only get a .002 to fit on the intake valves. I adjusted them to .004 and the exhaust to .005 and now it ticks soooo much louder. I have a hot cams stage 2. I just hope I adjusted them right. The bike starts perfectly and runs great. It just ticks sooo much louder now. Theres supposed to be some resistance when inserting the feeler guages right?

The idea is to get them as close as you can to specs.. They do have a happy median of a few thou in or out.. .002 is kinda tight.. Looser valves for the most part make a little more hp then a tight valve.. The stg 2 cam in it self will have a slightly louder tick then stock.. You should here my stg 3 tick.. Bigger cams have more aggressive lobes and ramp rates 90% of the time.. If you have them to or a fraction more or less then spec, it runs fine, don't worry about it..

The bike ran fine before I adjusted them and hardly ticked at all. I just wanted to check them because I never have before. Now that there in spec it ticks really loud now. Im probably just not used to it. If there was something wrong would the bike not run right?

They probably didn't tick before because they were way too tight. Stage two cams tick really loud.

yeah thats what i am thinking. I know hotcams tick loud but I must not be used to it. Cause to me its really loud.

I have a spal fan as well and its pretty loud when running. Now I can hardly hear it with the valves ticking.

They sound like a time bomb..I've had my stg 2 for a while now and I'm still not used to it. I'm always checking my valves to make sure they are in spec.

I have the bike all together now but I might tear it down again tomorrow just to double check it again. I cant believe how loud it is now. I might try to post a vid too tomorrow.

The Hotcams will tick. I've got a stage2 in mine and it ticks when its idling. But once you get on the gas its gone. If the valves are to tight it will wear the lobes down on the cam. Its better to be loose than tight.

to an extent he's right. as the engine warms up the valve clearance will tighten up. and if they are adjusted too tight then it can actually begin to hold the valve open when it shouldn't, not allowing it to seat fully, leading to poor performance and damaged valves, possibly even a bent valve from the piston smacking it...

I don't believe he was referring to valve clearances.

Yes I was talking about valve clearance. I put over 17,000 miles on mine before it was rebuilt.

Yeah this is close to what mine sounds like. This is a little louder tho. Probably cause you have the stage 3 and I have the 2.
