What is the switch for under the clutch lever. I want to put an aftermarket lever on my 400 ex and remove the e brake from the rear, can I do without the switch?

It's the Neutral Safety switch.
Yeah, you can do without it, you just will need to connect the wires that go to it.
But,
Be advised,
When you do this, it WILL start while in gear.

What do the wires need to be connected to?

I took a male connector and cut off the metal piece. Ground it till I could plug it in to the connectors. Then folded it and wrapped electric tape around my handlebars.

does anybody offer a single cable lever with a provision for a neutral safety switch? Any other stock honda or other OEM that has this setup? I'm considering doing something similar and with small kids I'd prefer mine not start while in gear.

Thanks, James.

I have an ASV C5 lever on mine and I just clipped the wires and wrapped the ends in electrical tape. I'm almost positive it doesn't start unless I'm in neutral though.

Thanks, James. Just go onto Ebay and search "Clutch lever with switch" and you'll find many perch/lever set-ups that can be used or adapted to work

just pull the two wires off and splice them together and wrap them in electric tape

I not seen any perches that do. Using the connector instead of just splicing them keeps the plugs intact so if you want to put the factory perch back on you can.

I been on alot of climbs that you wouldn't want to go to neutral just to start it.
