I am looking for a HMF silencer/muffler for my 2012 400X. A parts website is showing a "sport series" but HMF's website shows a "performance series." Both are brushed/silver and appear to be the same.
I have two questions:
1. Hardly any of the parts websites show parts for my 2012 yet. Can I buy one that is listed for a 2009-2011?
2. Is there a difference between the "sport" and "performance series"?

Any year slip on and/or full system for a 400 ex should work, as the only changes made is the plastic and reverse was added in 05. Correct me if im wrong , but the sport and performance series HMF pipes should be the same thing.
Every part but the plastics is pretty much the same from the start of these things. Sure the plastics are different, the CDI is different from 05-07 (not sure if 08+ uses same cdi) and 05+ has reverse-but basically every single part will fit your EX. Its the same frame from day 1, they never changed a thing.
2. If the muffler looks the same, it is the same. HMF is an excellent pipe.

Thanks!
Time to order a pipe, jets and new air filter. Winter is close and that means plenty of time to save money and mod it for the spring.
Whatever you do, make sure you get genuine keihin jets for the carb. These carbs do not work well with dynojet junk.
