Here are a couple pics of my newly shortened HMF slip-on. Sorry for the poor photo quality. I could not find my camera and had to rely on my cell phone.

The exhaust isn't nearly as loud as my old TC shorty but sounds very deep. I have noticed a difference in top end power with this exhaust shortened up. For me, this ended up being a very nice "free" mod. I am still able to use my quiet core for whenever I want to ride something other than MX.

Nice job. Did you loose anything on the bottom end?

I'm thinking about doing this to my big gun (since I hate it) and was wondering what you used to cut your exhaust with any tips are hints? :D

Whats wrong with your Big Gun? I've had the Evo-R on mine since that model came out like 5 years or so ago. Mine rusted, but I sanded it back to the factory finish and it was good to go again.

Definitely lets the 426 flow, better than the stock pipe anyway.

I like it! makes it look more aggressive and fits the style of your bike great. I like it much better over a 2 foot long pipe ;)

lol, that's the same thing that went through my mind. Nice job man. And I also have a Big Gun, the newest style though, and it's a very nice all around pipe. Sounds good but not too loud, looks good, clears the rear caliper and fits great. Can't ask for much more.

Mine sticks out just past my wheelie bar. It's the new version and I hate it should have kept my hmf. The only thing I like about it is the fact it's not so loud at idle but wot its just as loud just not as deep sounding. That's why I'm putting a blade to it soon :)

Tools used for the mod:

-Dremel tool with cutoff wheel & sanding bit
-Hack saw (preferably a band saw)

You need to use something like a piece of cardboard to wrap around the outer can to draw a straight line to cut. I found that on the HMF core, you have to keep the flared end and can't just cut it to the length of the outer can as the following picture illustrates:

I had cut a section of the core out and made a cut going the length of the piece. I then wrapped it around the two sections of the core to use as a brace and then had it all tack welded into place.

Other than that, this is a very straight forward mod!

Ivw got the new style big gun EVO r too. I don't see anything wrong with it. What style do you have? I thought about making it a shorty but was wondering what the pros and cons of doing it are?

And whats the point of wraping your header?

Keep heat away from your legs. Its not really needed on a 400 the pipes dont get that hot. 450 needs it!
