is there a way of getting paint in a can? just to sand down the rusted spots and touch it up?

I've seen a few people get a spray can that's close, but it didn't look that great. I've personally never found an exact match.

I'd imagine there has got to be one from some company.

There probably is, I'd check but my frame has been PC'd black and has lost all indentification stickers.

but I have had colors custom matched at a good auto body supply house

www.colorrite.com has it available for some years. Click on Paint Wizard. You can order a touch up pen, rattle can, or pint.
