need info on front shocks

hope some of you can help me.... from my understanding the stock front shock length is 16 3/4 (eye to eye) right? i have a pair of Fox Evols that i ran on my old 89 with +2 LSR standard travel arms, i am now trying to fit them on my completely stock 88 and they are way too long... so i measured the stock shocks that came off and they look to be 15 1/2 long. I am really puzzled, any help???

15.5 is the correct length for stock shocks. 16.25 is the longest you can stuff in a standard travel setup I believe and not lose travel as a general rule, they do vary with a arms though. stock arms will take the 16.25s.
