How did you paint inside the "Honda" on the side covers? I'm assuming you just taped over it then took a razor blade and cut it out then painted and peeled it off?

Well crap I didn't think of that I sprayed paint on a paper plate and bent a tooth pick and carefully painted inside it haha, it worked tho haha

In all honesty its easier to take a good paintbrush you buy at an art supply and use that. Ive done it on other stuff before, takes a steady hand tho.

Ya I started with a fine point brush but it was just to messy so I got some toothpicks and used that hahaha

Looks good. All you have to do is cover the case in the areas you do not want the paint to stick with wd 40, simply paint the letters, let it sit for some time, then use a rag with a touch of thinner on it, will wipe rite off..

What kind of paint did you use for this? I'd love to do this to my EX. I've seen this on other quads all the time and wondered what paint they use and what steps they take to make sure it doesn't chip or crack. All my paint projects last one or two rides then the paint starts coming off so if I am going to do this I want it to really last and look good, not cheap.

Gotta use engine enamel, also make sure you paint the topend apart otherwise the paint will fill in the gaps and make it seal like glue.

As for the bottom end, powdercoating would be better b/c it holds up better to abuse than paint. If you must paint Id again use engine enamel.

Trick to painting is to make sure you rough up the surface well, clean it REALLY good with something like acetone or MEK and make sure its dry. Then paint primer (light layers!) and then wait for that to dry and coat 3-5x at least all lighter layers. Then clearcoat again 4-6x. This ensures you have enough paint it wont scratch to easy and surely wont come off to easy.

Also using cheap rattlecan paint doesnt hold up to well in the end. I tend to only rattlecan stuff that doesnt matter if it gets chipped. Id rather paint with a real paint gun and compressor and set the oven to 100f and use it to cure the parts. or wait for a good not so humid summer day.

I used Rustoleum high heat gloss black enamel paint from Autozone

Thanks guys I ended up having 4 cans of the same metallic paint Honda#4 used because it is what we picked for my 1966 chevy. Only difference is it's dark grey not blue. I painted up my rotator clamps, throttle body top, levers (I'm covering those with a clear grip sheet to prevent wearing), case saver and heat guard.

Too cool that you have 3 wheelers also. I just sold my 86 Atc250R to buy my 400ex.
gotta check out eBay right now. A friend of mine from another site has a brand new, in the crate 86 Atc250R. I believe it is the only one known to exist.
Going to be a fun auction to watch!
