View Full Version : Who is excited for winter?

In the recent years it seems like I have been doing more riding in the winter than in the summer. There is nothing quite like riding on the frozen lakes and rivers all day. Usually there are everything from trucks, rhino's, snowmobiles, atv's, and dirt bikes to hover crafts and planes with ski's all out on the same day on the system of lakes we ride. We use Maxxis 4-snow tires and they have worked great, but this year I have decided to take it a step further and make adapters to attatch ski's to the front :D It should be a good set up when it is all done.

Who else can't wait for the freezing temps and blizzards :blah:

I love winter but seems as I get older, I dislike it more and more. Still at the point where I like it tho.

Winter means snowplowing, I hate being up for days on end in a plow truck with no shower being cold and wet.

Here in canada, I can't wait!! The snow is like a whole bunch of dirt, you pile it up into a track and pour water on it. Overnight it freezes, and you have an awesome track!!

I cant wait for the snow to fly! Cant wait to try out these new bad boys I just picked up two weeks ago. Pair of 2011 Volkl Kendo free ride skis paired up with a pair of Marker Griffin Bindings....got one hell of a deal on them, picked the pair combined up for $430, 61% off retail!!......can't wait to try them out up in the bowls at Breck and on the ice pack at Killington this winter!

Pretty sure someone sells these on ebay for reasonable price and you just attach skis. Do the Maxxis tires grab well enough that you think you could get around a snow covered mx track? Not saying hitting triples but are 40' tabletops possible? I guess you really don't know the answer yet since you don't have the skis on the front. It would be interesting to know once you do though.

Yeah I have seen those but I was able to get some material and make them for free! Of course I still need to buy ski's...but saves me about 70 bucks or so! I'd have to say it depends on the condition of the snow on the track. If it was packed down then I don't think you would have a problem, because with these tires I have enough traction to do wheelies easily. You can get going pretty well up to about 8 inches. Anything more than that it will still go, but not super fast. I have ridden in 12-13 inches of snow and didn't get stuck, which is pretty impressive to me.

However, I still kick myself for selling my snowmobile last year, now THAT was fun in the snow :D

i cant stand winter. especially working out in it.

spend a week outside working a couple stories up with a windchill below zero, for 10 hours a day than tell me how much you enjoy winter

im heading to FL next weekend to start work down there. let me tell you id much rather sweat my balls off than freeze them!

BlasterEaten250

Well the reason I ride so much is that I have thousands of acres of lakes to ride LEGALLY right down the road, so that is a major plus.

Got the ski's I am going to use today, 43 bucks

BlasterEaten250

Oh yeah, it was my first sled and I couldn't expect anything more. It had a nice ride and handled alright. The power was decent (especially coming off of a quad) and I never had it break down. Be prepared to spend a lot in gas though.

I made a homemade sled last year with 2 old down hill skis...that was interesting :blah: But yeah, I think I averaged maybe 15 mpg.

I'd take the snow before the rain anyday! When do the snowmobile trails open up there? I remember last year we got quite a bit of snow in early December but I couldn't take the sled out because the trails don't technically open until December 15th :grr:

I hate winter. Unless you have a 4x4 then it's no fun. And riding for more than 30 minutes sucks because everything gets numb. Oh well, atleast it gives me a chance to tear my wheeler down give it some TLC.

Man can't wait for winter!!! The snow keeps on melting after we get any though. Need to get some sledding done, at least if it stays freezing four wheeling is more fun in the snow and ice then in the freezing mucky sticky crap! I did that ski set up last year. Did it a little bit more... redneck style I guess you could say though.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwTZYBltwSg
I was planning on wrapping some old sled track I found in the bush around the back wheels for a an extremely flat width and superior grip but never got around too it. I'll probably do the same thing this winter it was a fun idea.
