Im wanting to put a carb on my 400 in a few weeks when i get the 416 kit and cam. i already have a full hmf system (cops called all the time haha) and i like the bottom end with the stock pumper. I do like the fcr39 alot but will the one for the xr400 fit the ex no prob? no air boot mods or anyhtin, just bolt and go? and i know it sounds crazy but what it i wanted to try putting a 05 660 raptor dual on? and is there a fuel injection system that will fit a ex? sorry for the long post. Im looking for a **** ton of bottom end but i also want it to rip *** in mid to top in a pinch

FCR is worth it, but costs a bit of money, 04-05 trx450r carb is near a direct fit (some like to use an adapter some stretch the carb to airbox boot a bit).

im kinda leaning at the fcr just because i heard it is amazing. Dual carbs or a FI system would be cooler though. Does the fcr just fit right in?

No you need to go to home depot and buy some plumbing adapters

You might be alright just boring the stock carb and deleting the choke and playing around with different jet sizes Being that your motor is only a 416.

But if you want your 400 to pull hard and I mean hard up top then the 39mm FCR carb would probably be the best, That's what I have on my bike. Got mine from Curtis Sparks. It works great on both the 416 and the 440 motors.

They also sell a 41mm FCR carb for the 400ex, but I have always thought that was a bit much for a 400ex. Cause most of the built 450r's run 41mm carbs

Duncan racing sells the 40mm FCR but they only recommend it for the 440 built motors.

CJM, Do you think that I could just bore the intake boot to match up with my motor porting, cause my 39MM FCR can barley fit into stock intake boot. without having to force it in there any help is appriciated thanks, Ty

Its possible if you went to home depot to gather some plumbing adapters to make it fit better.

Otherwise a dremel and sanding drum and such would work best. Alot dont run an airbox, just a plumbing fitting and a filter sticking out.

i think im gonna remove the choke and dick around with the stock carb before i think about getting the fcr. Hell, i might even get into it and make my own carb haha. no joke. CAD and a mill and im good to go

FYI: removing the choke is such a negligible its not worth it. Larger pilot (which it needs to beginw ith) would be better.

Ive already done the pilot and the choke actually fouls my plug now so it hasnt been used in about 6 months. otherwise once my other 400 sells im getting the fcr from sparks

The choke shouldnt foul out the plug unless your a bit rich on the pilot. Turn the air/fuel screw down a bit and see where it gets you.

I only use half choke on mine, full isnt needed.

im really happy with mine, i use no choke, pump it a few times, turn the idle about half a turn clockwise, fire it up, wait, and turn the idle back down
