Well I found out we have one gas station with race gas around me. It is 110 LEADED. Is it safe to run in my quad with a high compression piston? I mean is there really any difference?

well first of all is this about your 400ex? or a 450r ? what is your compression ratio i mean when you say high compression it could be any thing past stock? if its running good on pump i dont understand why you would want to run it anyway becuase race gas is wayyy higher imho

2005 trx450r with a 13:1 piston. One of my sponsors for next year has pistons and I get a good deal on them.

yes you can run that fuel, i recommend mixing it 50/50 with premium pump gas. Leaded fuels tend to pit the ports and combustion chambers, mixing it with pump fuel will help out alot

tbh im not expert but i would never think of running anything less than 100 octane with a 13:1. ^ and like eastside said 50/50 will work great to my buddy mixes 110/50 50/50 and it works well :D

is it still a high enough octane for 13:1? bein mixed with 93 and all

ya it should be fine if your worried about that mix it like 75/25 or 50/60 as in 50 93 and 60 110gas

You should be good mixing with 93 and the leaded 110 on motors up to 14:1 compression ratio, but anything past that I would run straight 110 leaded race fuel.

Me personally I run straight race gas on any motors past 12:5:1 compression ratio but that's just cause I like to get the most performance I can out of my motors.

Now when you go up as high as the 15:1 and 16:1 compression race motors, Most people will run 112 rocket fuel or even that 116 octane nitro gas. but that stuff is ungodly expensive.

Here is an octane calculator I found online a while back. Just put in the desired octane rating, The two octane ratings you are mixing and how much you want to make.

I came out with a 103 octane. In 5 gallons, is 2.1 gallons of 93 and 2.9 gallons of 110 seem alright? Im having trouble finding how much of 5 gallons in percentage it is. lol

2.1/5=42% pump

2.9/5=58% race

You should be plenty fine with 103, you can easily get away with lower 97~100 but it's whatever you are comfortable with and what you are willing to pay in race gas. Just play around with the numbers and get something that works for you.

I ran a 13:1 piston this year and mixed my fuel 50/50 (C12/91-93) resulting in a mix of about 101.5 octane.. That is GENEROUS for a 13:1 piston, but I like to be on the safe side when I'm pounding the piss out if it. I'll probably run a 14:1 or 13.5:1 for next year on the same fuel mixture, maybe run 60% C12 and 40% pump

i run a 50/50 of 108 and 93 on my 14.5:1 motor, you will be fine... the all aluminum engines can handle more compression before detonation. If its an extremely hot day or long moto's then you might want a stronger mix of race fuel but ive never run into any problems... Just remember, unless you are using Oxygenated fuel you are gaining NO power from it, the only reason to use race fuel is to allow for more compression and timing before detonation.

Thanks guys! I think on my only riding days I'm gonna run around 97 since im not racing running it so i dont run out of gas. Race days 101. Plus I am getting a cylinder works std bore cylinder since theyre my sponsor. Are they more durable than stock cylinders?

^^i was wondering the same thing but when i compared the prices its safe to say im going stock but i dont see where either would be better than the other if you want a piston that will perform the same as a 13:1 that will run pump 93 octane hit up mixxer on the org he buys cp pistions and shaves them and stuff they are 12:1 that are suppsed to do as good as the 13:1 with the advantge to run pump :D

I was talking to John at Venom about getting a 14.4:1 or somewhere around that area for next year, and he said he isnt cutting anymore pistons.. :(

There is one "super pumper" (12.5:1) left that he's selling, but that's the last one.. Check out the .Org to see if he's still got it..

almost positive that Venom still sells pistons. He does not "cut" the piston. It is a CP piston that is made to his specs. he has no machine work or anything involved, it gets shipped from CP... its a custom CP piston, ive been using the 14:1 version the last 2 seasons and have had zero problems. if you have a 06+ bike i would look into Cosworth CRF pistons, they are extremely good quality and come coated on skirts and dome and DLC wristpin.
